I have always thought that the worst rating a movie can get is 2 or 3 stars; that is, so average that it is forgettable, and I think that's where the problem with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny lies, with far more issues than positive aspects to mention. Ok, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is not a good movie, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have positive aspects. I think having the Soviets as enemies is the natural course for Indy as he enters the nuclear age, a change that is well represented in that shot with the nuclear bomb in the background (although, of course, the method for surviving it is somewhat ridiculous). But what we really can't forgive is the integration and performance of Shia LaBeouf, which was so terrible that he was eliminated from the sequel. | © Paramount Pictures
This is where the good Indiana Jones movies start. And right off the bat, it's hard to decide if this movie or its predecessor is better, but I think Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade suffers from pacing issues, particularly in the first half of the film. However, there are certain iconic moments that feel definitive in the eternal fight against the Nazis, such as that intense scene of meeting the Führer. In particular, the tank fight at the end is fun, satisfying, and iconic of the franchise. And you know what? The ending, with our protagonists riding into the sunset, feels like how this franchise should have ended. | © Paramount Pictures
I know many will disagree with having Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in second place, whether it's because of its very annoying co-star, its uncomfortable cultural references that are politically incorrect from a modern perspective, or the strange pacing where the second half of the movie is non-stop action. But if we are able to overlook these flaws, this movie has some of the most iconic scenes in the franchise, such as "Mola Ram, prepare to meet Kali, in Hell" and an amount of action that truly doesn't stop once it begins. And how can we not love Short Round, the best and most memorable sidekick of Indy? Not everyone has to be an annoying character and constantly bickering. But everything that makes us love Indiana Jones is concentrated in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and I don't say this just because it's the first movie in the franchise. We have the ruins of ancient civilizations full of traps, the Nazi villains seeking power to take over the world, and such iconic fights, whether for the ridiculous and unexpected, like the gun vs. sword scene, or for how exciting they are in an original setting, like the hangar. It has its touch of mystery, personality, silliness, and even magic, without the many flaws that plague many of its sequels, making Raiders of the Lost Ark the best Indiana Jones movie of all time. | © Paramount Pictures
