15 Movies That Had No Business Being as Good as They Were
15. I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I'll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time
Alina just wants to finish her shift, but when adventurers slack off, she grabs a giant hammer and clears the dungeon herself – in heels. It’s another overpowered-hero fantasy, but the office worker spin and Alina’s deadpan frustration give it just enough personality. | © Crunchyroll
14. Yaiba: Samurai Legend
This reboot keeps the old-school charm of the original while dialing the action way up, thanks to WIT Studio’s slick animation. Yaiba’s city adventure kicks off with a grudge match gone demonic, and it only gets wilder from there. | © Viz Media
13. Anne Shirley
This charming new take on Anne of Green Gables brings the red-haired orphan’s imagination to life with storybook visuals and pure emotional honesty. Anne talks a mile a minute and feels everything at full volume, which makes even her smallest triumphs feel huge. | © Crunchyroll
12. Shoshimin: How to Become Ordinary
Behind Osanai’s love of desserts is a disturbingly calm mastermind who once staged her kidnapping – and Kobato knows it. Season 2 keeps the slow-burn mystery alive, mixing sharp dialogue, eerie quiet, and just enough chaos to make you wonder what she’ll do next. | © Square Enix
11. Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX
Char steals the Gundam, the hero gets left behind, and everything spirals into a bold new timeline. It’s classic Gundam with wild visuals, sharp politics, and a tiny gremlin named Machu stealing scenes. | © Prime Video
10. Sakamoto Days
He’s a retired hitman with a dad bod, a convenience store, and zero interest in killing anymore – too bad his past keeps showing up with guns. The anime doesn’t always hit as hard as the manga, but the comedy and character charm mostly carry the load. | © Netflix
9. The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World
Tougo’s still doing sentai poses, just now in a world full of swords, magic, and confused party members. The show knows it’s ridiculous and leans into it hard, mixing genre parody with goofy charm and enough heart to keep you watching all the way through. | © Crunchyroll
8. Zenshu
Natsuko chokes on a snack and wakes up inside the anime that once changed her life – now she might be the one rewriting its ending. With jaw-dropping animation and a sharp twist on isekai tropes, Zenshu blends fantasy nostalgia with real emotional stakes. | © Crunchyroll
7. Cinderella Gray
Yes, it’s about reincarnated racehorses as anime girls – but it’s also one of the most intense, well-paced sports dramas out right now. Oguri Cap steals the show with her tunnel-vision dedication and deadpan charm, making every race unexpectedly thrilling. | © CygamesPictures
6. Witch Watch
Witch Watch throws a bunch of magic, chaos, and teenage awkwardness into one big charm bomb, and somehow makes it all work. Between Nico’s well-meaning spells and Morihito’s deadpan reactions, the show is a constant mix of messes and laughs. | © Netflix
5. Lycoris Recoil: Friends Are Thieves of Time
This lighthearted follow-up ditches shootouts for café shenanigans, letting Chisato and Takina just be hilarious, chaotic teens. It’s all vibes, all charm – and a perfect reminder of why fans fell for these two in the first place. | © Crunchyroll
4. Lazarus
Lazarus throws you into a slick, hyper-violent race to stop a doomsday drug from wiping out most of the planet. It doesn’t always hit the emotional beats, but with Watanabe’s direction, killer action, and that soundtrack, it’s one hell of a ride. | © Warner Bros. Television
3. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes
This spinoff dials things down from world-ending threats to late-night street patrols and part-time jobs, and it works. Koichi and his crew may not have licenses, but their DIY heroics, weird villains, and comic-book flair give the show a scrappy charm all its own. | © Crunchyroll
2. Mono
Mono isn’t really about the photography club, this anime is about wandering, discovering, and falling in love with creativity in all its forms. Whether it’s manga, longboarding, or just capturing the right light, the show finds beauty in the messiness of inspiration. | © Crunchyroll
1. Apocalypse Hotel
Yachiyo might be managing a hotel for absolutely no one, but that doesn’t stop her from treating every missing towel like a crisis. This weirdly funny, surprisingly touching sci-fi anime watches robots cling to their programming as the centuries roll by until the guests finally return, and things get even stranger. | © Crunchyroll
