The second installment of the ePremier Invitational was competed by all clubs in England’s top division, with the final day taking place on Saturday.

Maddison takes the crown

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has won the second ePremier League Invitational tournament.

The 23-year-old enjoyed an impressive victory in the final of the competition, after beating Sheffield United’s John Egan 5-1.

However, in the semi-final, things were much tougher for Maddison, who trailed Aston Villa’s Keinan Davis 3-1 with just nine virtual minutes remaining. Yet two late goals forced a second game, which the Leicester City man won via a golden goal.

In the final, Maddison produced his best performance of the competition and was 2-0 up within 25 minutes of the match, thanks to a Jamie Vardy brace. Kelechi Iheanacho then added two after the break, before Maddison’s in-game self bagged the fifth, which was followed up by a late consolation strike from John Fleckto make it 5-1.

Maddison is the second winner of the ePremier League Invitational after Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Diogo Jota comfortably won the maiden competition.

Speaking after his triumph, Maddison said:

“Having seen the first tournament from a distance, it’s been fantastic. The fan engagement has been brilliant, on social media. I’ve been getting a bit stick from some of the fans of the teams I’ve played against and beaten, and had a bit of mind games. But it’s all good fun and the games are for a good cause - staying inside."

The ePremier League Invitation was organized to raise funds for the #PlayersTogether initiative, a charitable organization created by Premier League players to support the UK’s National Health Service, while fans were also encouraged to donate to the cause.
