The Arena Open Hits MTGA on October 31

This October will be sent off with another edition of the Arena Open - MTGA’s competitive event where the best players win cash prizes. This time the two-day extravaganza will feature best-of-one and best-of-three games of Standard.

The Arena Open is making a return after the previous run back in May. This time the format allows players to select how they play - Bo1 or Bo3. Turns out many people prefer the snappy MTGA style of Bo1 games, while others want to take full use of their sideboards and duke it out in two-out-of-three gameplay, similar to competitive paper Magic events.

Day 1 Rules

• Format: Best-of-One or Best-of-Three Standard Constructed
• Start: October 31, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. PT
• Signups End: November 1, 2020, at 4:00 a.m. PT*—you'll still have a few hours to complete your current run, but you won't be able to join after this deadline.
• Event End: November 1, 2020, at 7:00 a.m. PT*

In best-of-one, players will get 400 Gems for 3 wins, 800 Gems for 4 wins, 1,200 Gems for 5 wins, 1,600 Gems for 6 wins, 2,000 Games, and a Day 2 qualification for 7 wins and everyone will be kicked out of the event after 3 losses.

In the Bo3 style players will get juicy 1,000 Gems for 1 win, 2,500 Gems for 2 wins, 5,000 Gems for 3 wins, and max-out the event with 5,000 Gems and Day 2 qualification at 4. Be careful, though, because 1 loss and you’re out.

Day 2 Rules

• Format: Best-of-Three Standard Constructed
• Start: November 1, 2020, at 6:00 a.m. PT*
• Signups End: November 1, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. PT—you'll have until the event ends to complete your matches, but you must join during this 2-hour window.
• Event End: November 1, 6:00 p.m. PT

Rewards look like this:

• 7 Wins: $2,000, Zendikar Rising Qualifier Weekend Eligibility
• 6 Wins: $1,000, Zendikar Rising Qualifier Weekend Eligibility
• 5 Wins: 20,000 Gems, Zendikar Rising Qualifier Weekend Eligibility
• 4 Wins: 10,000 Gems
• 3 Wins: 6,000 Gems
• 2 Wins: 4,000 Gems
• 1 Win: 2,000 Gems
• 0 Wins: No Reward

Entering The Arena Open will set you back 20,000 Gold or 4,000 Gems regardless of the style that you choose. You’ll also get Sea Gate Stormcaller; Leyline Tyrant; Scourge of the Skyclaves; Tazri, Beacon of Unity; and Ashaya, Soul of the Wild card styles just for entering.
