Team Nigma suffered yet another unexpected defeat in ESL One Germany. This time they fell to the recently formed roster of mudgolems.

Dota 2’s ESL One Germany is easily one of the most interesting tournaments in the last few months. The format is quite different from what we’ve seen so far as the organizers decided to bring back a modified version of the Swiss system. Something we haven’t seen in quite some time. This resulted in some intriguing matches as teams only stop playing when they reach either 3 wins or 3 losses.

Mudgolems Defeat Team Nigma

When you hear the name Team Nigma you’re probably thinking about a roster that’s only going to lose against Team Secret and maybe OG. ESL One Germany proved that’s not the case. The team is missing its captain as Kuro “KuroKy” Takhasomi is still recovering from a hand injury. The team’s coach Roman "rmN-" Paley is standing in for him, just like in OGA Dota PIT Season 3 Europe where the squad finished last.

ESL One Germany opens a new page of unexpected losses for Nigma. The first series for the famous team was against Yellow Submarine and it ended with a 0-2 loss for Team Nigma. Many fans were left shocked that the roster which won The International 2017 is now losing to Tier 2 teams. Nigma managed to recover in the next series against Tempo Esports winning it with 2:0. Yesterday came Nigma’s third opponent in the face of mudgolems. The latter is a brand-new team formed less than a month ago but don’t let that fool you. Their roster includes some famous and very experienced players:

  • Oliver "skiter" Lepko
  • Duško "BoraNija" Boranijaševic
  • Neta "33" Shapira
  • Milan "MiLAN" Kozomara
  • Adrian "Fata" Trinks

Much like 5men, the team has what it takes to take down the best, at least in theory. Their victory against Nigma raises more questions about the former TI-winners and their current shape.

Then again, it's true that Nigma is at its best when things get really bad. We've seen the roster come out of the lower bracket many times in the past and something similar might happen this time.
