Squid Game has cemented itself as one of Netflix's best. And all good things must come to an end. With the third season, the story came to a close and left a big impression on the viewers. The show's own X account posted a video with the caption "Game over. Thank you for playing. Squid Game the complete series, only on Netflix."

In the video, the villain Front Man – who oversees the deadly games – is seen walking towards a red button. As soon as he presses it, all the lights in the facility slowly turn off. The video recounts the amount of seasons, games, and players that were part of it, before saying that it is now over.

A Bad Ending With A Good Message

The show's creator Hwang Dong-hyuk already announced the shows ending in July of 2024, where he called season 3 the final season. Hwang Dong-hyuk explained that he didn't initially plan for the ending we got, but while writing and developing the stories for season 2 and 3, he realized he had to bring an end to the game and the protagonist Gi-hun's story.

The message Hwang Don-hyuk wanted to communicate was that "if we solely pursue our immediate self-interest, and refuse to self-restrain, sacrifice, or bear any costs, and if we don’t put our heads together, we have no future.” Season 3 was the weakest one in the eyes of the fans and many especially didn't like the ending.

A lot of the questions remained unanswered or were resolved in unsatisfying ways, while also feeling rushed. It's disappointing to see a show with a clear message and motivation behind it fumble the bag a bit in its finale, even though there were still some great episodes. While Squid Game's big send off wasn't the cleanest, many were still touched by the little curtain call on X.
