Twitch’s new feature sparks controversy and even prompts Asmongold to warn his viewers.
Twitch has introduced the option to gift 1,000 subs at once and as you might imagine, Asmongold isn’t a fan.
Asmongold Rejects Twitch’s 1,000-Sub Gift Feature After Emiru Clip
In a recent stream, Twitch star Asmongold watched a clip of Emiru being gifted 1,000 subs by a viewer. The moment left her visibly overwhelmed because of the sheer amount of money involved. After seeing the clip, Asmongold immediately shared his thoughts:
“If you do that to me, you’re getting permanently banned, I’m going to say it right now. Anybody gifting me 1000 subs, you’re getting permanently ******* banned."
He continued:
“But like somebody doesn’t give you $5,000 and not want something out of it. Unless I know that you are a Saudi Arabian prince, you do not do it. If you do it, the only way that your ban appeal can come in is if you send me your 1040 from last year, and if it’s not seven figures, you’re staying banned.”
His comments make it clear how strongly he rejects the new feature Twitch had briefly introduced.
Twitch Deletes Its 1,000-Sub Feature After Only a Short Time
Gifting subs has always been a part of Twitch culture. However, on November 26, Twitch implemented a feature that raised the maximum number of giftable subs from 200 to 1,000. The new sub bundle costs roughly $5,000. The possibility to spend thousands of dollars at once quickly sparked controversy within the Twitch community.
Following this, Twitch removed the feature just as quietly as they introduced it. It existed only for a short time, but it was long enough to ignite discussions about financial responsibility and parasocial relationships between streamers and their viewers.
Asmongold draws a clear line and distances himself from the feature. He clearly does not want his community to spend thousands of dollars on massive sub bundles. With this stance, Asmon expresses his distaste for what many consider one of the strangest Twitch features in recent memory.
