Dakota Johnson is stuck between Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal in a new romantic comedy about love, money, and modern relationships.
Rom–com fans, get ready. Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans are about to star in a chaotic New York love triangle that mixes romance, class, and comedy in A24's The Materialists.
Dakota Johnson As A Matchmaker Caught In Her Own Drama
Dakota Johnson plays Lucy, a successful matchmaker in New York who helps rich clients find love but struggles to navigate her own complicated relationships. Things get messy when she finds herself torn between two very different men: John, her charming but broke actor ex played by Chris Evans, and Harry Castillo, a wealthy and thoughtful new love interest played by Pedro Pascal. The story looks at modern dating and how people often have to balance their personal values with the wish for stability, success, and real connection.
Celine Song Brings Her Real–Life Experience
The movie is directed by Celine Song, who became well known after her debut film, Past Lives. She brings a unique perspective to the project. Before becoming a filmmaker, she worked as a matchmaker in New York herself. Her firsthand experience in that world adds an authentic layer to the film’s portrayal of romance, class, and power dynamics.
The film is being shot on 35mm, giving it the nostalgic look of a 90s rom–com while still telling a very current story about what people want in love.
Cast And Release
In addition to Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, the cast includes Zoë Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, and Sawyer Spielberg.
