A viral beauty injection from China has horrible side effects – the subjects' faces started to swell uncontrollably.
The disastrous side effects of a new type of beauty injection from China have gone viral. Intended to make people look prettier and younger, the injections have instead left many looking worse than before. After some time, recipients experienced changes overnight that left their faces severely swollen.
From Beauty To Beast In A Single Night
Youthfulness is a major part of the beauty standards not only in western countries, but also in China, where cosmetic procedures are extremely common. So it’s no surprise that, when self-proclaimed "beauty clinics" began advertising anti-aging injections, many people decided to give them a try. The clinics promised to change your entire appearance immediately by adding volume to your facial structure and smoothing out wrinkles.
These injections use growth factors to make your face appear plump and fresh. Growth factors are short chains of proteins that can increase collagen and elastin production. Originally, they helped heal wounds by stimulating cell growth. Originally, they were used mainly in medicine but have since found their way into the cosmetics industry, where they are often incorporated into serums and creams.
At first, everything seemed fine, and the procedure worked. However, people who received the injections suddenly experienced major changes often overnight. For many recipients, it was a nightmare to wake up and discover that their faces had become severely swollen overnight. Their faces swelled and felt numb, as if they had been stung by a bee. It looked as if large pockets of swelling had formed beneath their skin. Some became completely unrecognizable, looking more like cartoon characters than real people.
People online started warning others about the procedure and its consequences, advising them to avoid "sketchy" beauty clinics. Many of the victims are too scared to leave their houses and actively avoid being seen in public because of their appearance.
Is This Procedure Even Legal?
The Chinese government has already taken steps to address the issue. It previously banned unlicensed beauty "professionals" from performing non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Beauty, nail, and hair salons are strictly prohibited from performing procedures such as injections. The public is advised to be wary of unlicensed beauty "doctors" when considering any type of cosmetic surgery or similar procedure.
It seems like the side effects won’t vanish overnight. Your skin will look bloated until the material is surgically removed, and the swelling may return even afterwards – and sometimes it might already be too late.
Take this "bubble face disaster" as a reminder to be careful about whom you trust with cosmetic procedures and to be as informed as possible about what you inject into your skin.
