Make Room for More Mutants — Ryan Reynolds Might Be Building an X-Men Team-Up
After the release of Deadpool and Wolverine and growing interest in what comes next for the X-Men in the MCU, Ryan Reynolds is already working on his next Marvel project, which could feature Deadpool teaming up with a new group of mutants while stepping out of the spotlight himself.
Deadpool could be stepping back, to let others lead
After the release of Deadpool and Wolverine and rising curiosity about the future of mutants in the MCU, Ryan Reynolds is already thinking ahead. But instead of pushing for a traditional Deadpool 4, he’s reportedly working on something a bit different. According to several reports, Reynolds is playing around with the idea of a team-up movie, one that features three or four X-Men characters with Deadpool in a smaller role than usual.
A new mix of characters
This wouldn’t be another full-on reboot of the X-Men, since that’s already being developed by Michael Lesslie. What Reynolds has in mind sounds more like a wild side project, one that mixes Deadpool with a few mutants we might not expect to see together. Think a messier, funnier version of an X-Men story, where the focus shifts to characters that usually stay in the background.
Still early, but the idea is there
Right now, nothing is confirmed. Reynolds hasn’t pitched it to Marvel Studios officially, but he’s working on different versions of what this story could look like. It’s all very early, but insiders say he’s seriously considering it. And knowing how involved he is in every Deadpool project, it makes sense that he’d want to shape what comes next instead of waiting for Marvel to make all the decisions.
