HasanAbi and others were served a Requests for Information regarding their trip to Cuba, questioning if it really was for humanitarian aid.
Hasan Piker was served with a subpoena after his humanitarian aid trip to Cuba. He is alledged to have supported Cuba's and China's communist regime and spread propaganda. Hasan himself calls all this fake news and says he just wanted to show what the US did and still does to Cuba.
Piker and Medea Benjamin Served Subpoeanas
Political Streamer Hasan "HasanAbi" Piker and CodePink co-founder Susan Medea Benjamin were part of the Nuestra América Convoy in March, travelling to Cuba in a humanitarian mission to deliver medical supplies and other aid to the suffering country. Back then, they received a lot of criticism for their stay in a five-star-hotel while locals were without electricity and starving.
Now, both were served Requests for Information by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control as part of an investigation into the trip, according to Fox News. Officials want to find out if any sanctions or travel rules were violated though financing, delivery of goods or contact with the government during the mission. All in all, the trip drew criticism from some over the support for Cuba's government and US sanctions but many defended is as a humanitarian aid mission to help civilians during crisis. The subpoenas bear no criminal charges.
Government officials seem to think the humanitarian aid mission was held in support of Cuba's ruling Communist Party, as many of the participants and organisations involved in the trip are seen as politically far left or "communist sympathizers" as Fox New calls them. The investigation is part of a wider initiative by officials from the Treasury, State, and Justice Departments aimed at combating harmful foreign influence operations within the United States, particularly those connected to political violence, extremist groups, or activities the U.S. government considers terrorism.
The group was connected to Neville Roy Singham and Jodie Evans, who have, according to Fox News, supported pro-China, pro-Cuba, anti-U.S. narratives and groups that push those narratives. The administrative subpoenas represent a significant escalation by the Trump administration against "a far-left nonprofit activist network."
Now, the House Oversight Comittee has furthermore opened a formal investigation into Hasan Piker and both co-founders of Code Pink pertaining the Cuba-mission.
Prosecutors and congressional investigators now allege [the trip] functioned as a propaganda operation on behalf of the Cuban communist regime, in violation of U.S. sanctions law.

Hasan Piker Responds
After the first reports on this matter started to show, Hasan shared his outrage over the subpoena online. He wrote on X: “the American govt would rather try to criminalize delivering aid to a country we’ve starved, than punish the Epstein class.”

Benjamin also posted her open criticism of the government's actions online saying "Taking medical supplies to pediatric hospitals in Cuba is now a crime? Saving the lives of babies is a crime? This administration is beyond grotesque."

Some of Hasan's supporters say that the streamer got served the subpoena because he exposed what the US does to destabilize Cuba and for bringing over resources. They claim the charges are not going to stick.

I Can Do Anything / Finale - Christopher Lennertz
During a recent stream, Piker himself discussed the topic again, prefacing it with the notion that there is always something going on. During the broadcast he explains that his only goal is to bring attention to what the US is doing to Cuba.
And what the US is doing to Cuba is, according to Hasan Piker, trying to wage war against this smaller nation, that does not particularly have anything against the USA, after starving it first. The best way to do and justify this, he claims, is by connecting them to China.
He also stresses that he has not even received a subpoena yet at all and that a subpoena also does not mean that he is being prosecuted.
I have yet to receive one. A subpoena is not an indictment and an indictment is not criminality either and none of this matters also at the end of the day, there's nothing to prosecute me over
He says he is not "leaking" anything, he is just relaying publicly available information. Also, according to himself, Piker is not spreading any propaganda, he is just representing his opinion.
He compares the USA's actions to Israel, wanting a war against a smaller nation and employing "intimidation tactics" to keep activists like him at bay.
Moreover, he criticizes the news coverage of the story, especially Fox News, saying theses news channels are just echochambers hyping themselves up for "getting" him while he is just sitting in front of his computer streaming. He accuses them of making up alternative realities and spreading fake, manufactured news.
What's unbelievably frustrating, people are just making [stuff] up. It seems very coordinated, this messaging campaign.
Piker continues to defend the Cuba trip as humanitarian aid while simultaneously arguing that the focus should be on the actions of the US revolving around Cuba rather than the people trying to help.
