When coming to terms with your own death becomes part of the content.
The controversial internet personality FoodieBeauty is considering streaming herself while she sleeps – not because it is part of a new challenge or trend, but out of fear that her excess weight could kill her in her sleep.
For many influencers, sharing everything that happens in their lives with their viewers is part of everyday life: birthdays, weddings, vacations, illnesses, successes, but also defeats.
And yet, even those who otherwise make themselves as transparent as possible still try to preserve their privacy in certain places – whether that is the bathroom or their own bed. And when someone does stream from their private bedroom, it is usually because it is part of the streaming studio or a challenge, and very rarely simply so viewers can watch the influencer sleep.
But that seems to be exactly what FoodieBeauty wants to do – and the reasons behind it are as dark as they are tragic.
Nighttime Streams In Case "Something Happens To Her"
Chantal Sarault – the streamer's real name – has been struggling with her excess weight for years. However, this does not mean that she is fighting against her weight, but rather that her weight is fighting against her body. Since she refuses to work on a healthier diet and prefers to replace the exercise urgently recommended by her doctor with an electric scooter, her health is suffering greatly from her high-fat lifestyle.
The consequences of this stubborn behavior now seem to be becoming clear even to Sarault herself, and so she recently announced:
I am thinking about sleep streams, because in case something happens to me... at least someone will know.
This statement is distressing in two ways: On the one hand, it suggests that she has long been aware of her disastrous state of health, that she may even be afraid of falling asleep because she fears death, and yet she still does nothing about it. On the other hand, it clearly highlights the influencer's loneliness.
Since a very large part of her social interactions do not happen with neighbors or friends nearby, but online – and are largely shaped by critics, sensation-hungry viewers who want to see how far Sarault can still be pushed, and her ex-husband living in Syria – it would probably not be immediately noticed by anyone if Sarault really did not survive a night.
Even Her Critics Are Concerned
As scandalous as her behavior often is, as serious as the accusations against her may be, ranging from animal cruelty to tax fraud, and as unpleasant as she may often come across in her streams, such a fate is truly something one would not wish on anyone.
Even commentary YouTubers like GorlicBread, who comments almost daily on Sarault's missteps, ask their viewers to look at the situation separately from her persona for once and to think about how tragic such a fate must be – one in which someone would rather accept the possibility of livestreaming their own death than make changes to their own entrenched lifestyle.
It remains questionable whether all of this will be a wake-up call for FoodieBeauty, or whether sooner or later we will really have to prepare ourselves for nighttime streams in which we fear for whether she will wake up again the next morning.
