Five years after Covid turned the world upside down, the first major films about the pandemic are starting to emerge.
The first trailer for Eddington is here. The film takes place during the Covid–19 pandemic and stars Pedro Pascal and Joaquin Phoenix in a dramatic showdown.
A Western Set During The Pandemic
Eddington is a new movie directed by Ari Aster, best known for Hereditary and Midsommar. This time, he tells a story that takes place in 2020, during the first wave of the Covid–19 crisis. Joaquin Phoenix plays a strict sheriff named Joe Cross. Pedro Pascal plays a mayor named Ted Garcia who is trying to get re–elected. The two men fight for control, and their battle turns violent, dragging the whole town into chaos.

A Mix Of Drama And Dark Humor
Even though Ari Aster is famous for horror movies, Eddington is more of a dark comedy. The trailer shows protests, tension, and moments of violence. But it also includes satire, showing how fear and power struggles affected people during the pandemic.
A Cast Full Of Big Names
The cast includes several Hollywood stars. Besides Pascal and Phoenix, we see Emma Stone as the sheriff’s wife. Austin Butler and Luke Grimes also have important roles. The visuals mix the look of an old Western with scenes of modern conflict, like people in masks, loud crowds, and chaos in the streets.

Coming Soon
Eddington hits theaters on July 18, 2025. With big names and a story inspired by real events, the film is expected to get people talking.
