During a recent broadcast, Lacy found himself under fire as fellow streamer Maya Higa confronted him over his decision to rehome his pet geckos.

Maya Higa Forces Lacy to Apologize On Stream After Gecko Incident

Maya Higa is known not only for her popular Twitch streams, but also for her dedication to animal welfare. She runs the Alveus Animal Sanctuary, where a wide range of rescued animals are given shelter and proper care. Through the facility, she educates her audience about these animals. That is precisely why she takes issue when someone adopts a pet without fully understanding the long-term commitment involved.

That's why she got involved in Lacy's latest pet venture. At the end of January, Lacy and his fellow streamer Marlon purchased two Leopard Geckos. The two even contacted Maya after getting the animals and asked for advice on how to raise them. At the time, she urged them to act responsibly toward the pets:

"Make a good example to all of your viewers that you don't get pets for fun, and without doing the right research."

Even though Lacy agreed with Maya's statement, he eventually rehomed the two geckos to an assistant of his colleague Silky. When Maya later found out, she decided to call Lacy during one of his livestreams in February. With the authority the situation calls for in her voice, she told him:

“Look into the camera and tell them, ‘I will never get a pet again without doing proper research, and you shouldn’t either.'”

Lacy complied and repeated the sentence into the camera. The clip quickly went viral, and many viewers applauded Maya Higa for calling him out.

However, at least he chose to rehome the animals rather than abandon them. Still, people adopt pets all the time without fully understanding what they are getting into. A pet is not a toy, nor is it a tool for entertainment. It is a living being and needs to be treated appropriately. Otherwise, get a Tamagotchi.
