A viral clip from the presidential inauguration shows Theo Von’s chair collapsing. Was it a prank by the Paul brothers or just bad luck?

Say what you will about the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, on January 20, 2025. For some, this political shift represents opportunity; for many others, it feels like a threat.
Yet amidst all the political and social debates, an unexpected incident provided a much-needed moment of humor: comedian Theo Von’s chair spectacularly collapsed during the ceremony.
The video of the incident quickly went viral, gaining millions of views and shares across social media.
Now, not only has Theo Von commented on the situation, but the infamous Paul brothers, who were sitting right behind him and “coincidentally” filmed the moment, have also weighed in.
Theo Von Blames The Paul Brothers
In a statement on the platform X, Theo Von accused the Paul brothers of orchestrating the stunt. According to Von, the chair was deliberately tampered with to collapse during the ceremony.
It’s not a far-fetched theory: the two brothers, well-known for their pranks and viral clips, were seated directly behind Von and conveniently captured the entire scene on camera.
This raises questions about whether the incident was a genuine accident.
wasnt an accident. Paul kids thought it was to mess with the chair. there's a time and a place ya know. L https://t.co/o8dCHoHCHS

Logan Paul strongly refuted the allegations, stating that Theo Von had already been warned about the damaged chair before the ceremony even began.
“Theo Von knowingly sat in a broken, busted-*** chair before the inauguration even started,” Logan said in his response. “And we even pointed it out to him. Danica Patrick saw it, Kyle Forgeard from Nelk saw it, my mom saw it. Everyone saw it."
Logan went on to emphasize that he wouldn’t pull a prank like this without compensation.
“Jake and I filmed the whole inauguration, I just trimmed that little clip and posted it because I thought it was funny. And by the way, it was funny, bro! …that’s how you know it wasn’t me. You went through a chair, not a table. Trust me, if I wanted to hurt you with a steel chair, I would do it!”
Innocent until proven guilty, this is America!! @TheoVon pic.twitter.com/OnCy0oXLnv

A Divided Community
The incident has split opinions within the community. Some side with Theo Von, holding the Paul brothers accountable, while others believe Logan’s version of events and see the collapse as a genuine mishap.
Adding to the debate is the fact that the chairs at the ceremony didn’t exactly scream high quality, perhaps it really was just an accident.
Still, the Paul brothers’ history of orchestrating elaborate pranks leaves room for doubt.
Under Von’s post on X, many users expressed their solidarity and inquired about his well-being.
Others used the opportunity to criticize the Paul brothers, while a few dismissed the whole event as unremarkable. Logan, for his part, seemed unfazed by the backlash.
Real lame. @jakepaul & @LoganPaul will go down as the two biggest douche bag siblings since Kane & Able.

Whether the incident was intentional or simply bad luck remains unclear. What’s certain, however, is that the debate won’t be dying down anytime soon.
Both parties have undoubtedly gained significant attention in the aftermath, something that likely suits them just fine.
The Paul brothers, guilty or not, continue to thrive on their community’s applause. Meanwhile, Theo Von now has plenty of material for his next podcast episode.
