IShowSpeed might just have done something that usually takes years of paperwork.
With his tour across Africa, IShowSpeed sparked widespread excitement and enthusiasm. He himself said that the experience had changed his life. That sense of appreciation appears to be shared in Ghana, where the government has announced plans to grant him Ghanaian citizenship.
IShowSpeed’s Africa Tour And Its Global Impact
IShowSpeed is by now one of the biggest content creators in the world. He became internationally famous, especially after his tours through different countries around the globe. In his latest tour, he traveled across Africa for 28 days and visited 20 countries along the way.
During his journey, IShowSpeed attracted large crowds and generated widespread excitement among fans. His livestreams reached millions of viewers and brought significant international attention to the places he visited.
Even the famous streamer Hasan Piker reacted to his Africa tour and called IShowSpeed the "real life Monkey D. Luffy". He praised the good vibes of his tour and said:
"This man is our greatest cultural export."
So it's safe to say his tour had a lasting impact, considering he made Hasan Piker stop complaining for five seconds. However, especially in Ghana, this enthusiasm appears to have gone even further. Following his visit, the Ghanaian government announced plans to offer him Ghanaian citizenship, citing the positive exposure and attention he brought to the country.
Why Ghana Offered IShowSpeed Citizenship
During the stream in Ghana, Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins Jr. shared that his mother is from the West African nation. In response, Ghana’s foreign minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced on social media that Watkins would be offered a Ghanaian passport, referring to what he described as IShowSpeed’s “irrefutable ties” to the country.
While many fans supported the decision, others opposed it, arguing that citizenship should not be treated lightly and that granting it to foreign celebrities risks devaluing the Ghanaian passport.
Beyond the political debate, the tour shows how popular Speed’s IRL streams have become. When he travels to Africa, it is not only Africa that watches, but the whole world. Travelling the world and interacting with different cultures has turned his tours into global entertainment and at this point, he might really just be real-life Joyboy.
