In a recent stream, xQc reacted to Asmongold’s takes on the latest ICE shooting in Minnesota, and made it clear at one point that he did not share the same view as Asmongold.

xQc Responds to Asmongold’s Take

The news have lately been dominated by the most recent ICE shooting in Minnesota. Naturally, major streamers in the United States also reacted to these events and commented on the situation. This was also the case for xQc.

While covering the topic on stream, xQc reacted to videos and clips from news outlets as well as content from other streamers. He watched several videos related to the topic, including one made by moistcritikal. However, he also reacted to what Asmongold had to say and at one point clearly disagreed with his take.

This specific argument is marked by Asmongold saying:

"And at the end of the day, if he had complied with the police, if he didn't have the gun with him – like there is a much higher probability that he wouldn't have been shoot."

xQc reacted by holding his hand to his face in apparent disbelief, saying:

"Oh my god, what year is this?"

xQc argued that this was a "she was asking for it" type of argument. His reaction was primarily a rejection of the take itself, which he described as fundamentally flawed. By invoking that comparison, he implicitly pushed back against a line of reasoning that is often criticized for shifting responsibility away from the person who committed the act and toward the victim.

In the end he summarized it:

“It’s not a good take.”

What Happened in Minnesota

To understand why this comparison resonated so strongly, it is necessary to look at the circumstances of the shooting itself. On January 24, ICE shot US citizen and ICU nurse Alex Pretti. Early reports by ICE officials described the incident as an act of self-defense, claiming that the man was walking toward the agents while holding a gun in his hand. After footage of the incident emerged, this version of events no longer held up.

The video shows Pretti approaching the agents unarmed, holding only a phone in his hands. As the situation escalated, he was thrown to the ground and restrained by ICE agents, while another officer removed his legally owned handgun from its holster, meaning Pretti never drew his weapon. After the gun had been removed, ICE agents opened fire on the unarmed man while he was lying on the ground. He later died as a result of his injuries.

This incident marks the second death of a US citizen caused by ICE in Minnesota in January alone.
