There are thousands of Twitch emotes circulating on the platform. Some of them come from various add-ons; some of them are native to the platform. This is how streamer Maya found out that her face is one of the most popular emotes.
Twitch chat and its emotes can be pretty overwhelming for new users. It’s a jungle of memes, funny faces, and inside jokes that even streamers don’t always fully understand. And before you know it, your face could turn into one of the most popular emotes on the platform – just ask Maya.
The Famous LMAO
But to add some context – and trust me, you’ll need it – emotes on Twitch are a wild thing. I even had to Google a few details myself, and I use the platform multiple times a day. Twitch already provides a basic set of emotes for its users.
Add unique streamer emotes on top of that, and you’re already dealing with a massive collection. Some of them can only be used in the specific streamer’s chat they belong to, while others work in almost every stream across the platform.
If everything is still clear so far, brace yourself, because it gets a bit more complicated. There are countless browser add-ons out there whose sole purpose is to give you even more ways to express yourself in chat.
One of the most popular add-ons is called 7TV. And that’s exactly where you’ll find the famous LMAO emote, which is currently used in over 4,000 Twitch channels. The funny part? The face behind that emote belongs to a streamer named Maya, and she had absolutely no idea it existed.
And The Emote Isn't Even That Good
At least, according to Maya. One important detail about 7TV emotes is that only users who have the browser add-on installed can actually see them. Everyone else just sees plain text. That’s why this emote could have easily flown under her radar for a long time; to her, the chat would’ve simply shown “LMAO.”
The Twitch streamer first became aware of it while watching a colleague’s Twitch stream, when she suddenly saw her own face appear as an emote. Her chat, however, loves it. They even call it a “very good” emote and say they’re disappointed when typing “LMAO” in other streams doesn’t show Maya’s face.
"Is this my claim to fame? 4,000 channels use it?! What?!"
She takes it all in good spirits. Even if she doesn’t quite understand why this particular emote became so popular, it’s still a memorable way to leave her mark on Twitch.
What do you think? Do you already use 7TV? Do you like Maya’s emote, or are you completely new to the emote game? Let us know in the comments!
