In an interview, Jack Black mentions another movie release in 2029, but whether this is real or a joke is still up to debate.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has just been released, but may we already look into the future for another extension of the Mario cinematic universe?

After The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023 grossing $1.3 billion at the global box office and now the Super Mario Galaxy Movie just released, the gaze starts to set around the future of the franchise already. A third movie has not been announced yet but a recent interview has fueled speculations.
Jack Black, who voices Bowser, and Donald Glover, who is the voice of Yoshi, were recently interviewed by Cinemex. In the last minutes of the interview, the actors improvise a funny song for Bowser, but what made viewers listen up was what came after. In a joking manner and more in passing, Jack Black says:
Don’t be surprised if you hear that coming out next time, in 2029.
Although this does not confirm anything and is very vague, viewers think Jack Black may have slipped up here and leaked a potential new release.
The clip got shared on XCancel and Reddit, with viewers hinting at an accidental confirmation of the third movie. But not all fans agree, the reactions are mixed.
Some speculate what this new movie could mean, whether it will be an Odyssey movie or a Smash Bros. movie or something different. Others just think Black is just joking around or just following the timeline of the first movies' releases being three years apart. One person writes: "Just kind of feels like a joke lol, especially when it's a three year gap like the one between the second and first." and another claims: "I mean… I don’t think he actually specifically knows when it’s coming out but he’s making the obvious assumption that the Mario movies come out every three years."
With the success of the first movie and the expected success of the second one, it would however not be unrealistic that Nintendo would release another film in three years time. If Jack Black knows more or just jokingly assumed another movie remains unclear.
