American rapper Kodak Black has once again been arrested, this time in Broward County, Florida. He has a criminal record that includes 12 prior felony convictions. In 2021, President Donald Trump commuted his three-year federal sentence for falsifying weapons purchase documents.

Previous Arrest

On May 7, 2026, Kodak Black was arrested after investigators linked him to 25 grams of MDMA that had been found in one of his cars in November 2025.

In that incident, officers were called to a scene in Orlando, Florida, following reports of gunshots. They found the rapper near a BMW and a Lamborghini SUV. According to law enforcement, there was a scent of cannabis in the air, which they considered sufficient reason to search the vehicles.

Inside a pink bag, officers reportedly found 25 grams of pills, $37,000 in cash, and documents bearing the rapper’s name. The pink bag was later identified as one the rapper had posed with on Instagram.

Roughly half a year later, lab results confirmed that the pills contained MDMA. Combined with the documents found at the scene, authorities considered this enough evidence to arrest Kodak Black on May 7 of this year.

According to his attorney, Bradford Cohen, the case is a “total joke” because police allegedly lacked probable cause to conduct the search in the first place. The rapper pleaded not guilty, and his bond was set at $75,000, increased due to his 12 prior felony convictions.

Latest Arrest

One week later, on May 14, Kodak Black surrendered himself to authorities in Broward County, Florida. The charges included fleeing and resisting an officer without violence. This time, bond was set at $0, with both charges still pending trial.

Once again, attorney Cohen released a statement defending his client: “Everyone agrees Kodak is constantly being targeted.” He also described the incident as an “unfounded weak arrest” following a five-month investigation.

What’s Next?

Kodak Black is now facing two open criminal cases simultaneously in Florida. The first case is by far the more serious. Under Florida law, trafficking more than 14 grams of MDMA carries a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

In addition, his 12 prior convictions make a lenient sentence less likely if he is found guilty. The rapper must also comply with strict bail conditions, including avoiding drugs, certain associates, and firearms.

Defense attorney Cohen has dismissed both cases as politically motivated targeting; in the past, he has used this strategy successfully. Trial dates for both cases have not yet been scheduled by the court.

The pattern of these arrests raises questions about whether his career and public image can withstand further legal pressure. Some fans have also commented on social media that he needs to “lock in” and focus more on his music career rather than substance abuse.
