A cruise passenger's vacation took an unexpected turn after she found out she had been scammed.
A Louisiana woman who says she was scammed out of nearly $1,100 for a Caribbean cruise decided she wasn't going to let the money disappear without a fight. Instead, she booked her own ticket, boarded the same ship, and tracked down the man she accused of taking her money.
Vanessa Phillips had planned to take a Western Caribbean cruise aboard the MSC Seascape with Armonte Domious Wilson, a man she had met during a previous cruise in December 2025.
According to Phillips, Wilson asked her for around $1,100 to secure her place on the cruise. She says the two exchanged itineraries, booking information, and invoices as they prepared for the trip. Phillips later explained on Facebook that she believed she had been given fake booking information and invoices.
I reached out to them and we made plans, plans that included a FAKE itinerary, FAKE AGENT BOOKING NUMBERS, INVOICES and payments sent totaling near $1100.
As the departure date approached, Phillips claims Wilson stopped responding. She later discovered that he had booked a cruise for himself for $524, while she was no longer included in the reservation.
She Refused to Let the Cruise Go Without Her
Rather than simply staying home, Phillips decided to book a separate ticket aboard the same ship. The cruise departed from Galveston, Texas, on August 30 for a seven-day Western Caribbean trip that included stops in Mexico and Honduras before returning to Texas on September 6.
Phillips eventually found Wilson relaxing in a jacuzzi aboard the ship, where she confronted him in a video that was later shared on social media.
"You thought I wasn't going to get on here? You took my $1,100! You thought I wasn't going to make it? Where my money at?" Phillips said during the confrontation.
She repeatedly demanded to know where her money was and questioned why her name had allegedly been removed from the reservation.

Wilson initially told her that he had the money, but when Phillips asked whether he had it with him, he said no. The confrontation continued as Wilson denied taking her money and eventually called security.
Wilson Says There Was More to the Dispute
Wilson has denied scamming Phillips and offered a different explanation for what happened. According to his response, Phillips disputed some of the Venmo payments she had sent him, prompting him to remove her from the booking.
Wilson also said he was unable to respond to the dispute within the required timeframe and acknowledged that Venmo could ultimately rule in Phillips' favor.
"Please consider the facts and documentation provided rather than relying solely on portions of the live conversation", Wilson said in a now-deleted Instagram post.
The case remains a dispute between the two parties, with Phillips maintaining that she was deceived and Wilson denying the allegations.
