Netflix’s Emmy-winning animated anthology Love, Death & Robots is set to return on May 15, 2025 with its fourth volume — and as always, it's shaping up to be as strange, subversive, and visually inventive as ever.

Known for its standalone storytelling and genre-defying episodes, the series continues to offer a platform for global animation talent to explore dark futures, surreal scenarios, and big speculative questions.

Ten New Stories. No Limits

Season 4 features ten new episodes, each functioning as its own short film. There’s no shared plot, no recurring characters — just bold, disconnected visions driven by complete creative freedom.

Netflix hasn’t released episode summaries, but the teaser trailer offers a glimpse into what’s coming: dinosaurs locked in combat in a futuristic arena, a colossal robotic infant in a crumbling city, a levitating cat worshipped by cloaked followers, and puppets glitching on a surreal stage.

Other scenes hint at possibly historical backdrops, sentient household appliances, and eerie glowing objects without clear context. There’s no narration, no exposition — just a stream of haunting, suggestive imagery.

A Showcase of Visual Contrast

One of the show’s most defining traits is its radical visual variety. Volume 4 continues that tradition, blending hand-drawn 2D animation with photo-realistic CGI, painterly techniques, and experimental styles.

Each episode is created by a different studio, resulting in deliberate aesthetic contrast. This lack of visual consistency isn’t a bug — it’s the concept. The series thrives on difference, not cohesion.

Creative Team And Direction

Tim Miller, known for Deadpool, remains the series creator.

David Fincher (Fight Club, Mindhunter) returns as executive producer, after directing the standout episode “Bad Travelling” in Volume 3.

Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who oversaw Volume 3 as Supervising Director, resumes the same role for Volume 4.

As in previous volumes, each episode is produced by a different animation studio.

While Netflix hasn’t revealed the full studio lineup yet, many longtime collaborators are expected to return.

What We Still Don’t Know

So far, Netflix has not confirmed the voice cast for Volume 4. While previous seasons featured actors like Michael B. Jordan, Rosario Dawson, and Topher Grace, no cast announcements have been made for the new episodes.

It’s also unclear whether any of the shorts will be adaptations of existing science fiction stories — a format used in earlier volumes — or whether Volume 4 will consist entirely of original scripts.

Episode details remain intentionally vague, as always. And that’s part of the appeal: each story arrives unannounced, unconnected, and full of mystery.

Not Softer. Just Stranger.

Even in its fourth outing, Love, Death & Robots shows no sign of playing it safe.

If anything, it leans further into its strangest, most uncompromising instincts — rejecting formula in favor of singular, often disorienting visions.

In an era of content designed to be consumed and forgotten, this series still feels handcrafted — and just risky enough to matter.
