Influencer Found Dead After Disappearing From Crowded Beach
Tamyris Teixeira Santos was a small internet celebrity with over 18,000 followers on Instagram, where she shared lifestyle content and videos of her work as a martial artist. She also worked as a lawyer.
On Saturday, April 18, she went to Rio de Janeiro’s Leblon Beach with her friends. The group was spending time at a beach kiosk, when Santos decided to go for a swim. When she didn't return, her friends reportedly went home and never questioned or raised alarm that they couldn’t find her. The family learned that the influencer was missing the following day through the beach staff kiosk, who called to say her personal belongings had been left behind. A missing persons report was filed and firefighters notified, which sparked a frantic search for the swimmer.
Three days after her disappearance, Santos' body washed up on shore on April 21 near the Leblon viewpoint area. A forensic report states that Santos died from a drowning triggered by a stroke.
Drowning is a determining factor in brain injury, as it begins to suffer damage due to lack of oxygen and water aspiration, causing asphyxiation.
What had people confused was not only the questionable non-reaction of the influencer's friends and the fact that she was an athlete and strong swimmer, but that she disappeared and died in broad daylight on one of Rio’s busiest beaches without anyone noticing. Firefighters said that even sea conditions were calm at the time. And still, no emergency calls were made from that stretch of beach.
She said she was going there and never came back. No one has explained it. The beach was crowded. There’s no way someone could drown and no one would notice.
Santos' mother said, puzzled at how her daughter could disappear like that.
While the official report points to a medical event that led to drowning, the exact sequence of what happened that day remains unclear. The fact that an experienced athlete disappeared at a busy beach under seemingly calm conditions, without anyone immediately noticing or calling for help, makes the case especially difficult to understand. In the end, what remains is a tragic and sudden loss, and a grieving community saying goodbye to a young woman whose life still seemed full of promise.
