Humor may not be the best medicine, but it helps you keep going.
Grace Helbig has shared a serious diagnosis with her community: The 41-year-old YouTuber and comedian has been diagnosed with two brain tumors after previously overcoming breast cancer. Still, Helbig remains positive and is facing the situation with humor.
Humor as Medicine
"Two things... and they're both tumors," Helbig says at the start of an Instagram video filmed for her nearly 1.3 million followers. She then explains that the two brain tumors were discovered after she went to the emergency room because of numbness in her leg.
Helbig makes it clear that while the situation is serious, she refuses to let it take away her sense of humor.
Has Her Breast Cancer Returned?
Helbig first shared her breast cancer diagnosis publicly in July 2023. She underwent chemotherapy, breast-conserving surgery, radiation therapy and hormone therapy. Afterward, the cancer was in remission.
Helbig now suspects that the cancer may have returned and spread to her brain. According to her, however, both tumors can be surgically removed, though further radiation therapy may be necessary afterward.
Tour Dates Postponed and Support Pours In
Helbig is postponing the remaining 2026 dates of her This Might Get Weird tour until 2027. She is also taking a one-week break from her podcast with Mamrie Hart.
In her update, Helbig approached the situation with humor but described herself as cautiously optimistic. She thanked her husband, family and friends. Among those expressing their support in the comments were Mamrie Hart and YouTuber Link Neal. Helbig plans to update her community again after the surgery.
Her fans, her community and, of course, all of us wish Helbig all the best and a speedy recovery!
