Off the Grid: Dr. Boutte’s Quiet Exit After Surgery Video Scandal

From TikTok fame to illegal injector: the shocking downfall of the medical world’s infamous "Dancing Doctor."

Dr. Windell Boutte, a board-certified dermatologist from the Atlanta area, first gained widespread attention as a woman in scrubs posting choreographed dance videos on Musical.ly (the precursor to TikTok). This early social media presence helped build her persona as the "dancing doctor" - a brand she later extended directly into the operating room with music videos filmed during live surgeries.

However, the scandal was not far to seek: by botching surgical procedures for online clout, Boutte prioritized digital attention over her core duty of care, committing gross negligence in her pursuit of fame.

Consent Breached: Patients Say They Were Filmed Without Permission

Word quickly spread that Dr. Boutte had failed to treat her patients properly, even filming them without their consent. Multiple patients came forward alleging she had used their bodies as props in her videos while they were under anesthesia, with several reporting they had explicitly forbidden any photos or videos from being taken.

In one widely circulated clip, Boutte is seen singing along to O.T. Genasis’s "Cut It" while making an incision on a patient’s abdomen. Another video shows her dancing over a patient’s exposed buttocks to Migos’ "Bad and Boujee," at times without wearing a surgical mask or gloves. These actions resulted in life-altering damage for multiple patients, including permanent brain damage and severe physical disfigurement.

License Suspension and Legal Fallout

Stating that her practice poses a threat to the public health, safety, and welfare, the Georgia Composite Medical Board swiftly suspended her license in 2018. By mid-2018, nearly 100 women had sought legal counsel, sparking at least seven lawsuits over negligence, invasion of privacy, and botched surgical outcomes.

While Boutte publicly claimed all videos were pre-approved and staged, plaintiffs completely dismantled that defense by producing a consent form with a blank signature line. Boutte ultimately capitulated, agreeing to an indefinite license suspension with a minimum two-and-a-half-year ban on practicing medicine. Following state attorney general investigations, she was also ordered to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in restitution to victims alongside insurance penalties. Boutte maintained that the videos were recorded during safe, controlled, post-operative intervals at the patients' request to celebrate their transformations, but the physical evidence and victim testimonies painted a starkly different picture of non-consensual filming and reckless, unprofessional conduct.

The Vanishing Act: Illegal Rebranding in Texas

Rather than facing the immediate public backlash, Boutte put on a vanishing act, completely scrubbing her social media presence and closing her clinic doors. However, investigative journalists later tracked her down working at Eden Med Spa in Austin, Texas, under the name Catherine Davis, which was a combination of her middle and maiden names. She presented herself as an injector and treated clients despite having no active medical license in either Georgia or Texas.

Following investigative reports by WSB-TV, she was removed from the spa’s website, and staff described her as away due to difficulties outside of Eden. Even during her time at the Texas spa, new patients came forward reporting painful, botched injection procedures performed by Boutte.

What began as a quest for viral fame in the operating room ended with a permanently suspended license, major financial judgments, a name change, and a failed rebranding that left her practicing medicine illegally without the credentials to back it up.
