PewDiePie has ended his family vlogs after more than four years, saying his son deserves privacy and a choice.
Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg has officially brought his family-focused YouTube vlogs to an end. The creator had previously announced that September would mark the final chapter of the series, which documented his life with wife Marzia and their son Björn.
The decision comes as Björn grows older and becomes an increasingly important part of the videos. PewDiePie says he wants his son to eventually decide for himself whether he wants a public presence.
PewDiePie Wants His Son To Choose His Own Path
In his latest video, PewDiePie explained that there was no dramatic reason behind the decision. The family simply never intended to continue the vlogs forever, and Björn getting older made this feel like the right moment to stop.
“For Björn, I want him to make his own choices. He deserves his own privacy,” Kjellberg said.
The YouTuber had already discussed the issue earlier this year, saying the regular vlogs were putting too much pressure on Björn’s online presence. While the family may still share occasional photos or clips, they want to be more intentional about what they put online.
PewDiePie also opened up about his own relationship with fame. Despite loving YouTube and the community surrounding his videos, he admitted that he does not enjoy being famous and finds the constant attention difficult.
Family Content Is Not Disappearing Completely
The end of the vlogs does not mean PewDiePie is leaving YouTube. He confirmed that he will continue making videos, although his future content direction remains less clear after moving away from both regular gaming videos and family vlogs.
The family will also continue its monthly newsletter, which PewDiePie described as something like a written version of their vlog.
The family series originally began as a way of documenting life in Japan and eventually continued for more than four years. During that time, viewers followed Marzia and PewDiePie through major milestones, including Björn’s birth and his early childhood.
PewDiePie has previously said that the series was only supposed to last for a handful of videos. Instead, it grew into one of the central parts of his current YouTube content. Now, however, the focus is shifting toward Björn’s future and giving him the chance to decide for himself how much of his life should be public.
