The pop star missed the 'Wicked: For Good' premiere in São Paulo, Brazil due to plane issues.
As excitement builds for the release of the second part of Wicked on November 21, 2025, fans in Brazil were treated to an early celebration. On November 4, 2025, Wicked: For Good premiered at the Suhai Music Hall in São Paulo.
The movie‘s cast, including actor and pop icon Ariana Grande, was expected to attend the premiere. However, fans were left disappointed when Grande announced she couldn’t make it due to unexpected travel complications.
Why She Couldn’t Make It
Ariana Grande shared the unfortunate news in her stories on Instagram, explaining that technical issues with her plane prevented her from flying to São Paulo in time for the event.
She began her heartfelt statement, saying:
"Brazil, I can’t believe this is happening and I am beyond devastated to be sending this message."
According to Grande, she and her team had to deplane due to a safety issue, which required maintenance on the aircraft. As a result, the plane couldn’t take off in time to make it to the premiere.
Determined to still attend, she explained that they searched for every possible alternative, including other flights, times, even connecting flights, commercial and private, but nothing would have gotten them there in time.
The singer further clarified that even with private flights, a special permit is needed before departure, which takes time to process.
Ending her message on a sorrowful note, Grande expressed her deep regret:
“I am so heartbroken that I’m unable to be there with you all. […] Please shower my incredible castmates with all of the love that I wish I could be showering you with and have the most beautiful celebration. And again, I am so, so very sorry.”
Despite her transparent explanation, Grande faced backlash online from disappointed fans.
Ariana Grande On Hateful Comments
Shortly after her initial statement, the pop star posted another message on Instagram addressing the negative reactions and threats she received.
She pleaded, "Please don’t wish danger on us," clarifying once again that she and her team did everything in their power to attend the premiere. She emphasized that while she understood the disappointment, it is nothing compared to her own, and that it doesn’t justify hate or assumptions that she didn’t try to find a solution.
Though she again repeated her explanation of the circumstances, Grande chose to end on a heartfelt note, expressing love and gratitude rather than frustration:
“I love Brazil, I always have, I always will.”
Despite the turbulence surrounding the situation, Ariana Grande’s response highlights her professionalism and empathy.
