For one man, getting arrested wasn’t the strangest part of the day. The selfie was.
Imagine getting arrested and the police officer pauses the whole process just to take a selfie with an influencer.
Arrest Paused For A Selfie
Influencers have become increasingly popular over the past few years. Names like Kai Cenat or IShowSpeed are now known around the world. It is therefore not surprising that even smaller content creators are being recognized in public, as was the case with British fitness influencer Matt “MattDoesFitness” Morsia.
While out on a walk with his family, the content creator was approached by a police officer who asked to take a photo of him. What made the situation more unusual was the fact that the officer briefly paused an ongoing arrest to do so.
Even though MattDoesFitness has not reached the level of popularity of someone like Kai Cenat or IShowSpeed, he still has around 2.37 million subscribers on YouTube. On his channel, he posts fitness challenges, experiments with different diets, and general insights into his personal life. In that context, an officer asking for a selfie turned into a noteworthy Instagram post.
The Internet Can’t Stop Laughing
Naturally, the internet reacted to this unusual case. Matt’s wife commented under the Instagram post:
“Still can’t believe this actually happened.”
Fans also commented on the situation:
“You have the right to remain in place while I grab a quick selfie.”
“Guy getting arrested must’ve hated you right then, could feel the daggers through his blurry face.”
“Plot twist. He wanted a photo op with the cop.”
In the end, this moment is first and foremost one thing: funny. It is simply hilarious that a police officer postponed his duty to take a selfie with an influencer. At the same time, it highlights a growing trend, namely that online personalities are becoming more and more popular. Influencers increasingly occupy the space once reserved for traditional celebrities. They may well be the Hollywood actors of tomorrow, or perhaps even of today.
