Sam Wilson Assembled His Avengers Team Off Screen – But Who’s On It?

Sam Wilson is finally leading his own Avengers team, but Marvel didn't show us how it all came together. Here’s who might be on the squad when Avengers: Doomsday drops in 2026.

Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, and while we’re all excited to see Anthony Mackie finally lead his own Avengers lineup, there is still the big question – who’s actually on his team? Unlike past Avengers lineups, Sam’s ensemble hasn’t exactly had the same build-up, so we’re left piecing together clues from the MCU’s recent movies and shows.

Who Might Be On Sam Wilson’s Avengers Team?

While Marvel hasn’t confirmed the full lineup, several characters are rumored to be part of Sam’s team based on their recent roles and connections within the MCU:

Joaquin Torres / Falcon

If Sam Wilson is leading this team, it makes sense for his new Falcon, Joaquin Torres, to be at his side. He took over the Falcon mantle in Captain America: Brave New World, stepping up as Sam’s trusted right-hand man.

Hulk (Bruce Banner)

Bruce Banner is still one of the heaviest hitters in the MCU, and his deep connections to heroes like Captain Marvel and Wong make him a logical choice for Sam’s Avengers team. He’s still keeping an eye on the big threats, as seen in the Shang-Chi post-credits scene where he helped analyze the origins of the Ten Rings. That alone makes him a strong candidate for a multiverse-level conflict.

Thor

Thor would be a solid addition to Sam’s Avengers team, especially if they’re going up against someone as powerful as Sentry. While Thor hasn’t had much screen time with a lot of the newer heroes, his strength and experience would give the team a major advantage in a fight. Plus, the idea of Thor and Sentry clashing on opposite sides has a lot of potential, especially if Marvel wants to explore the more intense, high-stakes battles that the multiverse saga is building towards.

Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)

Carol Danvers, on the other hand, is one of the most powerful beings in the MCU and has been dealing with cosmic threats for years. Her experience fighting intergalactic battles and her established ties to heroes like Wong make her a natural fit for this lineup. If the Avengers are heading into a multiverse showdown, it’s hard to imagine Carol sitting this one out.

Ant-Man (Scott Lang)

Scott Lang might not be the first hero you think of for a multiverse crisis, but he’s come through for the Avengers before. His experience with the Quantum Realm means he understands the weird science behind these kinds of threats, and he’s always up for the challenge, even when the odds are stacked against him.

Wong and America Chavez

Wong has become one of the MCU’s most reliable mentors, guiding heroes like Shang-Chi and America Chavez while still handling his duties as the Sorcerer Supreme. His experience with the mystic arts makes him a natural fit for a team dealing with multiverse threats, and with America’s portal powers, they’d be a strong duo for any dimension-hopping missions.

Black Panther (Shuri) and M'Baku

Shuri and M'Baku have both proven themselves as powerful leaders and skilled fighters, making them strong allies for the Avengers. With Sam’s new Captain America suit coming from Wakanda, it’s clear that their connection is still strong. Both Shuri, as the new Black Panther, and M'Baku, one of Wakanda’s fiercest warriors, are confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, making them likely picks for Sam’s team.

Shang-Chi (Xu Shang-Chi)

Shang-Chi is one of the newer heroes in the MCU, but he’s already got strong connections to the Avengers. He met with Wong, Hulk, and Captain Marvel in his film’s post-credits scene, and his Ten Rings seem to be a major part of the MCU’s multiverse puzzle, which makes him a natural fit for Sam’s lineup.

Why This Team Was Assembled Off-Screen

The exact lineup for Sam’s Avengers team is still speculation at this point, and some fans are a bit disappointed that it’s coming together off-screen. Captain America: Brave New World might have seemed like the perfect place to set up this new roster, but that movie came out before Thunderbolts, which is built around the idea that there are no active Avengers left. Introducing a fully formed Avengers team before then would have messed with that premise, so it makes sense that Marvel is holding back.

Marvel’s Clever Marketing Move

Marvel recently took an interesting step to match the on-screen conflict between Sam Wilson's Avengers Team and the Thunderbolts New Avengers(z) team with real-world branding. They updated the official Avengers social media pages with a copyright symbol, reflecting the idea that Sam Wilson’s Avengers have legally claimed the team name. It’s a smart move that adds an extra layer to the story, blurring the lines between the MCU’s fictional world and real life, while also setting up the tension between Sam’s team and the New Avengers.
