It has been over a decade since Pretty Little Liars first aired, but the cast is still closely connected to the show that shaped their careers. In a recent interview, all five main actors and creator Marlene King have expressed interest in a potential reunion, not as a full reboot, but as a single film.

A Film Over A Reboot

Troian Bellisario, who played Spencer, explained that a movie would make more sense than a rebooted series. After seven years on the show, she feels a one–time return would be the most meaningful way to revisit the characters. That idea makes even more sense considering previous reboots like Ravenswood, The Perfectionists and Original Sin all failed to last beyond one or two seasons. None of them captured the original show's success, which is why a standalone film feels like a better option.

Everyone Would Love To Return

Lucy Hale (Aria) has said she would come back without hesitation and still feels deeply connected to the show and her former co–stars. She mentioned they keep in touch regularly and that the idea of reuniting feels exciting rather than distant. Shay Mitchell (Emily) also showed strong interest but made it clear that it would only feel right if all five of them returned together. For her, the group dynamic was always at the heart of the show. Sasha Pieterse (Alison) added that she’s always open to working with the cast again and still has a lot of love for the characters they created. Troian Bellisario agrees and thinks a reunion only makes sense if it brings back the original group as a whole.

The Creator Is Interested, Too

Marlene King, who created the series, has also expressed interest in returning for a reunion. While she has acknowledged that some plotlines, especially the age gap between Aria and Ezra, would be handled differently today, she remains proud of the show and the characters it created.

The Elephant In The Room: Looking Back On Aria And Ezra

One of the most talked about storylines from Pretty Little Liars was the relationship between Aria and Ezra. What was once seen by many fans as a romantic, forbidden love story is now being viewed in a more critical light. Creator Marlene King admitted that, with today’s understanding of grooming and power dynamics, this kind of plot would likely not be written the same way again. Still, she acknowledged that the pairing was hugely popular at the time and played a big part in the show’s success.

Ian Harding, who played Ezra, has also reflected on the discomfort the relationship can cause in hindsight. In his memoir, he even referred to Ezra as “America’s most beloved pedophile,” showing that he’s aware of how problematic the character’s actions could be seen today. Lucy Hale, who played Aria, said she doesn’t regret the storyline but sees it differently now. At the time, she was 19 and didn’t think much about the age gap or teacher–student dynamic. Looking back, she understands the concerns.

There’s nothing official in the works yet, but the fact that both the cast and the creator are openly interested makes a reunion feel more possible than it’s ever been.
