The Social Network Part 2 will dive into Facebook’s role in the Capitol riot, election chaos and real world violence.
Facebook did not just change how we connect, it changed the world, and not always for the better. The Social Network Part 2 will show how the platform helped spread election lies, radicalize users and even played a part in the Capitol riot on January 6. The sequel is based on leaked internal documents and will expose how far the damage really goes.
Inspired By Real World Scandals
The upcoming sequel to The Social Network will not be another tech origin story. This time, the focus is on the consequences. The film will explore how Facebook fueled political division, spread dangerous lies and contributed to real world violence, including its role in the January 6 Capitol riot. This is not a traditional sequel. The new film is less interested in continuing Mark Zuckerberg’s origin story and more focused on the consequences of what his company became.

Leaked Documents, Real Damage
The story is based on the Facebook Files, a series of leaked internal documents that exposed how the platform ignored the harm it caused. From boosting toxic content to making young users feel worse about themselves, the leaks showed just how deep the problems go. And now, that damage is hitting the big screen.

David Fincher Is Not Involved
While the original film was directed by David Fincher and praised for its distinct tone and visual style, he will not return for this project. Instead, Aaron Sorkin will be directing on his own.

What About The Original Cast?
There is no official word on whether Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, or any of the original cast members will return. Given the time jump and the plot shift, it is possible that the film will feature a new cast but still briefly reference the original characters.
The project is still in early development, so there is no confirmed timeline for filming or release.
