The White House posted another meme on X – and people are shocked about the message.
The White House seems to see memes as its marketing strategy. Now it posted a brand new, very controversial video on X.
The Post
On March 12, the White House posted a Video on X that enraged many viewers. It shows the Wii Sports title screen with its characteristic font reading "Operation Epic Fury" and the game's soundtrack playing in the background. But that's not all: The video then shows scenes from the games Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort followed by real-life footage of missile strikes against Iran. The characters are seen hitting a target in Tennis, Golf, Baseball and other sports, then the missile hits, and the characteristic goal-slogans of the games – "Hole in One", "Out of the Park", "Knockout", "Slam Dunk", or "Strike" – can be heard and seen on top of the very real footage.

The comments under the post show viewers outraged. People are stunned that the White House would treat something as serious and awful as war like a joke. One comment reads:
You literally just brought a 20 year old home in a box and you post ******* cartoon videos like this war is a joke!
Not Their First Time
Just last week on March 5, the White House posted another meme on X, using the Pokémon Pokopia screen to spread their political agenda.
And last September, the official Homeland Security account posted a video on X, showing scenes of the Pokémon-anime interlaced with footage of Homeland Security and ICE operations, playing the Pokémon theme song Gotta catch´em all.
You can read about both in this article.
Back then, Nintendo already distanced itself from the White House's political message and made clear that no permission had been given for the use of their intellectual property. That strongly suggests that no permission has been given for the new post as well. Neither Nintendo nor their fans are happy about the political instrumentalization of their games.
People are dying, the whole world is affected, and the White House makes memes, putting missile strikes on the same level as a bowling strike in a video game. It seems like they have lost sight of the severity, seriousness, and reality of their actions – it feels kind of dystopian.
