The toys are back, but this time they are up against a new enemy: an ipad.
In the fifth Toy Story film, Woody, Jessie and Buzz return for a new adventure that explores how childhood play is changing in a world of tablets and technology.
Jessie Becomes The New Sheriff
In Toy Story 5, the spotlight is finally on Jessie. Now the main toy in Bonnie’s room, she has stepped into Woody’s old boots and taken charge. When a strange new device begins to change Bonnie’s behavior, Jessie realizes something is wrong and calls Woody back for one more mission. Her role marks a new chapter for the franchise, giving her the leadership this time. Woody, who left Bonnie’s toys behind in Toy Story 4, makes a comeback after Jessie reaches out to him. No longer tied to a child, he is still loyal to his old friends.
Buzz Lightyear Subplot
The film opens with a group of Buzz Lightyear toys stranded on a beach after a mysterious shipwreck. Still convinced they are real space rangers, they team up and set out on a mission of their own. It is a fun and chaotic subplot that adds humor and pokes fun at Buzz’s original delusions from the first film.
Meet The New Villain, Lily Pad
The new antagonist is not another toy but a digital device. Lily Pad is a frog-shaped learning tablet that seems helpful at first but slowly starts to dominate Bonnie’s attention. Its presence turns into a quiet threat to the toys’ way of life, highlighting the growing disconnect between kids and physical play. Pixar describes Lily Pad as a charming but prickly character who truly believes it is doing the right thing.
New And Familiar Voices Return
Tom Hanks is back as Woody, with Tim Allen returning as Buzz. Joan Cusack once again brings life to Jessie, and several familiar voices like Wallace Shawn (Rex), John Ratzenberger (Hamm), and others are also expected to appear. Joining them are newcomers like Conan O’Brien, who voices a new toy named Smarty Pants, and Anna Faris in an undisclosed role. Ernie Hudson will now voice Combat Carl, stepping in for the late Carl Weathers, who passed away in 2024.
Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19, 2026.
