The K-Pop industry has found its new Queen – and it's Trisha Paytas!
Trisha Paytas is known for many things: YouTube vlogs, cultural appropriation and reincarnating the Queen. But you never could have guessed what her newest sidequest is. The K-Pop industry has found its new star – and it’s Trisha Paytas!
@trishlikefish88 / Saranghae (I love you) is out now
- Trisha Paytas
This week, she released a new song titled Saranghae (I Love You). Unlike her older song “I Love You Jesus”, it's not a religious – it's a K-pop song. With its upbeat pop sound, colourful visuals, and cute dance, the music video is clearly reminiscent of a typical song from the older generation of girl groups. So far, a lot of people seem to love it. At least, they seem amused by it. Many social media users are joking that she's "saving the industry", while others are pointing out her history of racism.
Not only is the style of the song similar to the K-Pop genre, but it even has Korean lyrics. Trisha claims that she worked with a language producer to learn the lyrics for the song and even learned the language. Some users have even pointed out that the song contains more Korean lyrics than the average K-pop song nowadays.
In an Instagram post, she thanked her producer, Alex Wright, for “being so patient with her and teaching her the cadence, meanings and more behind the beautiful language and culture." Further, she explains that the song was inspired by her “girls”, who listen to a lot of K-pop. She concludes by saying “Trish Unnie will be your new fav bias.”
