More than 300 British public figures have come together to call for an immediate end to the UK’s arms exports to Israel. In a powerful open letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, artists, actors, authors and activists are urging the government to take a firm stand for international law and humanitarian justice.

A Growing List Of High Profile Voices

Among the signatories are internationally renowned names such as Dua Lipa, Benedict Cumberbatch, Gary Lineker, Annie Lennox, Tilda Swinton, Riz Ahmed and Nicola Coughlan. The letter also includes Holocaust survivor Stephen Kapos. Each name represents a voice speaking out against what they see as the UK’s complicity in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

What The Letter Demands

The open letter, coordinated by the humanitarian group Choose Love, outlines three urgent demands: an immediate end to all UK arms sales and export licenses to Israel, full humanitarian access to Gaza for aid organizations, and an active push for a ceasefire that is immediate and lasting. These calls come in response to an escalating humanitarian crisis, with countless civilians, especially children, trapped in the devastating consequences of ongoing violence.

A Call For Accountability And Compassion

The signatories stress that silence is not an option. They argue that the UK’s continued arms support makes it morally and legally responsible for the consequences of those weapons.

While the letter may be symbolic, its message is anything but subtle. Some of the UK's most influential cultural voices are paying attention, speaking up and making it clear that silence is not an option. By using their platforms, they are choosing to stand with those whose voices are too often pushed aside, showing solidarity where it is desperately needed.
