Netflix has a new live-action Scooby-Doo series in the works and the cast for the Mystery Inc. gang has now been released.
Scooby-Doo Goes Live-Action
Fans of the beloved Hanna-Barbera cartoon can be excited: Netflix will bring the animated series to life in a new format. The new series was announced in March 2025 and will be eight episodes long. The official logline describes it as a modern reimagining of the popular cartoon show and wants to illuminate the beginnings of the Mystery-gang.
“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
- the longline reads.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg will be its writers and showrunners. Warner Bros. Television will produce. We don't have an official release date to share just yet, though.
Although this will not be the first live-action adaptation of the cartoon series with the talking dog, it will be the first in a long time. There was "Scooby-Doo" (2002) and its sequel "Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashes", which were box-office-hits, and also “Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins” and its sequel that were released in 2009 and 2010.
The New Mystery Inc. Gang
Netflix has picked its new Scooby-Doo cast: Mckenna Grace had already been announced as Daphne Blake in February. The rest joining her are: Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, Tanner Hagen as Norville “Shaggy” Rogers and Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, Variety states.
All of the actors already have experience in film and TV. Jenkins has starred in shows like Reacher and films like This Too Shall Pass and Good Joe Bell. Hagen is known from The Pitt and Lawmen: Bass Reeves. He was also previously a member of the music-group FuturePop. Fortson has not only also appeared in The Pitt but in Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, A Dog´s Journey and Ant-Man as well.
The cast seems to be experienced and we can be excited for new adventures of the crime busting mystery solving friend group and their talking dog.
