With the release of the second season of the Fallout series on Amazon Prime Video, the legendary post-apocalyptic franchise is enjoying a new surge in popularity. The TV adaptation is captivating not only longtime fans of the games but also attracting a whole new audience. Amid this success, one key question arises: will the series have an impact on Fallout 5? The U.S. video game developer Bethesda has now provided a clear answer.

Fallout 5 Is Getting Closer

After ten years of waiting since the release of Fallout 4, the anticipation for a new single-player installment in the series continues to grow. While Fallout 76 has received regular updates, it hasn’t fully satisfied fans looking for a classic RPG experience. Interest in Fallout 5 is therefore high, even though the project is still in the very early stages of development. Concrete details about gameplay, setting, or a release date are still scarce – but at least the first hints about the content are starting to emerge.

Bethesda’s studio head, Todd Howard, confirmed in an interview that the events of the Amazon series are part of the official Fallout canon and will have an impact on future games. Fallout 5 is set to take place in a world where the series’ events have already occurred or are currently unfolding. The show is not separate from the games; rather, it actively expands the existing universe.

Series And Game Closely Connected

This statement opens up a world of possibilities and just as many speculations. There could be direct references, shifts in power, or even familiar characters from the series appearing in the game. Whether protagonists like Lucy or the Ghoul will actually show up, however, remains unclear. What is certain is that everything happening in the series could have long-term significance for Fallout 5.

Interestingly, the influence isn’t one-way. As early as 2024, it became clear that certain ideas for the TV series were deliberately set aside because they were intended for Fallout 5. This highlights just how closely the development of the game and the series are intertwined.

Fallout 5 could also venture into new territory in terms of timeline. While Fallout 4 was set in 2287 and the series begins in 2296, many fans expect the next game to take place around 2300. Such a move would give Bethesda greater creative freedom, allowing them to explore new chapters of the Fallout story without being constrained by existing lore.

Despite these exciting prospects, fans will need to be patient. Industry experts estimate that a release is unlikely before 2030 at the earliest. In the meantime, the Amazon series will likely continue to grow a third season has already been confirmed. For Fallout fans, this means the journey through the wasteland continues, at least for now on the screen.
