With the “2” erased from Overwatch, a wave of nostalgia is sweeping through the game and with it, the return of streamers who first rose to fame through the once widely loved hero shooter.

With The New Update Overwatch Brings Back The Old Guard

Five new heroes, one of them literally a Jetpack Cat, five more heroes announced for later this year, the “2” officially dropped from the title, and suddenly the hype around Overwatch feels real again.

Accordingly, some streamers hopped back into the game that once made them famous to see how the new update plays out. Of course, TimTheTatman could not resist jumping back in. The former Top 500 Winston main jumped into his placements and even queued some Quick Play to test the new heroes. If you watched the streams, you probably caught a strong whiff of nostalgia, because the vibe felt a lot like the good old days. Tim raging at his teammates’ misplays, complaining about how bad Blizzard World is, he is absolutely right about this by the way, and cracking jokes in between fights.

A very different experience, however, was the one xQc had. The former Overwatch pro also returned for a few games, but one match quickly turned sour. After asking his Lifeweaver to stop pulling him out of fights, the situation escalated once the teammate realized who he was playing with. As the argument escalated, the teammate accused xQc of cozying up to Trump for money in an attempt to provoke him. xQc’s response was short and telling:

"Oh my god, dude. I knew Overwatch would be like this."

As you can see, some had more fun than others returning to the game and climbing the ranks once again. The real question, though, is whether Overwatch is truly back, because when it comes to that, our streamers had very different opinions.

The “2” Is Gone, The Streamers Are Back, But What About Overwatch?

Of course, people are curious whether the hype can translate into a full-scale revival of the game and what the streamers actually think about that. Well, the opinions differ.

While TimTheTatman clearly enjoyed his time on Overwatch, he even mentioned after his placements that, based on his recent matches, 5v5 felt better to him. In contrast, xQc, who went as far as drawing charts to emphasize why 6v6 is superior. Even Flats, a long-term Overwatch creator who spent much of the last year focusing on Marvel Rivals, returned but still shared his distaste for 5v5. According to him, this remains the main reason why he stays with Rivals, even though he enjoyed parts of the new update.

However, both Flats and Tim highlighted the Jetpack Cat as a genuinely cool addition to the game. Whether that alone is enough to spark a full revival, though, remains to be seen
