Fortnite Pro Player Apologizes With AI

Peterbot apologized for his language in a surfaced video, but he might have used AI to write the apology.

Peterbot is widely considered the best Fortnite player in recent years. Recently a video of him surfaced online, reportedly shot two years ago. In the video he sits at the table at what seems to be a small gathering. It shows Peterbot eating cake and as soon as he realized that he was being recorded, he tells the cameraman to "stop being gay".

He follows this with the F and the N slur. Since nobody else really reacts at the table and they all just laugh it off, it seems like this was the edgy language this friend group has used at that time. Peterbot was 16 at the time and it didn't seem like he could grasp the weight these words carry yet.

The Apology

Peterbot did the mature thing and apologized for the language he used in the leaked video. Or at least that's what you might think if you look at it at first glance. But keen-eyed viewers have noticed that the apology seems a bit suspicious in its writing. Certain words like "context, responsibility, apology, growth" are typical phrasings of AI tools.

We can also find the famous "rule of three" in the phrase "I am commited... to learn, grow and ensure...", which is very overused by AI and a great tell. Some people also ran the apology through an AI checking tool and the result was a 100% certainty that AI was used. Still, all of the "evidence" should be taken with a grain of salt since it has not been proven or admitted yet and even AI checkers can be faulty.

More Clips Surfaced

After this whole incident, there were even more clips highlighting racist behaviour from Peterbot. Another streamer called Arky streamed at the same time as Peterbot and he was watching Peterbots stream. Then the POC streamer gets banned from Peterbot's chat. And the reason for the ban was just the word "monkey".

Of course, in this case it was not Peterbot himself who issued the ban but probably one of his chat moderators. Still, this points to a possible bigger issue with Peterbot and his close circle.

Was the apology AI? Are there actual racist tendencies or is it just young people who don't know any better? What do you think?
