For a long time there have been conversations on whether the high fantasy book series "Mistborn" by Brandon Sanderson would be made into a movie. According to Sanderson in his yearly report "State of the Sanderson" on his website, a lot of great pitches have been made, but he can not elaborate further. However, the rights to the series had been tied up in film and television for so long that it is only now that the first steps toward a video game could be taken.

The World Of "Mistborn"

In "Mistborn," Sanderson dives into a world with a very unique magic system – metals. By drinking specific metal mixtures our beloved main characters Vin, Kelsier and more gain the ability to swing through the air from building to building, make themselves mentally and physically superior to their enemies and are generally naturally born warriors.

Especially in the first book, there are clean antagonists that need to be defeated to fix the power imbalance of the world.

Within a game the mechanics of this magic system can be connected to the classic high stakes story lines that Sanderson is known for to ultimately create a combination that the gaming world would immediately fall in love with.

When Can We Expect More Information?

According to the report "State of the Sanderson", the development of the game as well as the conversation with the studio is in the early stages. After having the rights to his work be tied up in movies and television Sanderson is trying to keep the option of a video game more open. In his post he writes:

I already have interest from some major players in the Video Game industry (who I like a lot). So if you are a decision maker at a AAA studio, or a major independent, and you’ve always wanted to make a Mistborn or Stormlight game... well, you would want to contact my reps now.

Therefore we don't know when we can expect a game release or which studio will get the chance to bring the vision to life just yet. But you can be sure we'll update you as soon as there's more news to share!
