Overwatch 2 is getting a new addition and this hero is already stirring up discussion.
Overwatch 2 has announced its newest character. Vendetta will join the roster in December, but what role will this new hero take on?
A New Gladiator Enters the Battlefield
The new Overwatch 2 hero for Season 20 is confirmed: Vendetta, also known as La Lupa, will officially join the roster on December 9. However, players will be able to try her out early during a limited-time Hero Trial starting on November 26.
Which role she will take on in the game is still uncertain. Some sources speculate that she might be introduced as a Tank, while others believe she will be a Damage hero. Blizzard has not provided any official confirmation yet. The only thing that can be stated with certainty at this point is that Vendetta will not be a Support, as her trailer makes that quite clear.
If she does turn out to be a DPS hero, she would likely be the first purely melee focused Damage hero in the game, which would be a clear break from how this role has traditionally been designed. However, she could also be an exciting addition as a Tank, especially considering that the Tank role has not received a new hero at all this year.
By November 26 at the latest, we will finally know which role Vendetta will take on.
Lore, Design, And Early Hints About Her Playstyle
The design of the Italian born heroine is heavily inspired by that of a gladiator. Armed with a sword and clad in heavy armor, she dives straight into battle. As a melee focused character, her playstyle appears to be very aggressive, but for now these impressions come solely from the trailer and have not been officially confirmed.
Vendetta is the daughter of Antonio Giordani, a high-ranking Talon official who was killed by Reaper. Her motivation therefore appears to be heavily driven by vengeance. Both her trailer monologue and her name, which means “revenge” in Italian, strongly point in that direction. Where exactly she will fit into the overarching story is still unclear and will likely only become evident once her full reveal is complete.
What Does Vendetta Mean For Overwatch 2?
With Vendetta, the community can look forward to a hero who stands out not only visually but also narratively and gameplay-wise. Her mix of gladiator aesthetics, a personal revenge motive, and what appears to be a very direct combat style already makes her one of the most intriguing additions in recent seasons. Many details are still unknown, but this very uncertainty is adding extra excitement surrounding her release.
By the start of the Hero Trial on November 26, players will finally get to find out how Vendetta actually plays and which role she will take within the world of Overwatch 2. One thing is already certain: La Lupa is going to shake up the game in a big way.
