Ranking All Resident Evil Games From Worst To Best

1-13

Resident Evil: Die ultimative Rangliste

Resident evil revelations 2

12. Resident Evil Revelations 2

The problem with the sequel to Resident Evil Revelations is that it commits the same sins as the first one, but with a terrible addition: if you want to know how the story continues, you'll have to buy multiple DLCs. A sin in the industry, for sure... | © Capcom

Resident evil revelatons

11. Resident Evil Revelations

But the real problem with Resident Evil Revelations, both 1 and 2, is that not only are they short and feel like spin-offs, but they also try to imitate the greatness of the first installment in many aspects, but in a crude and terrible way. Additionally, the backtracking throughout the entire ship is very frustrating, especially considering that the color palette ranges from dark blue to navy gray. They are not significant, and you can skip both. | © Capcom

RE0

10. Resident Evil 0

What’s good about Resident Evil 0? It adds a bit of backstory before the events of the first title in the franchise. What’s bad? That it’s unnecessary. Resident Evil 0 feels like an excuse to create a prequel and make more money, and although some may disagree with it being ranked so low, the reality is that the enemy balance was terrible, and the nostalgia factor can be found in the earlier installments. | © Capcom

Resident Evil 6

9. Resident Evil 6

It was very difficult for me to choose between Resident Evil 5 and 6 for the number 9 spot, and the reality is that this title is very fun... if you're playing with someone. At its core, RE has been a single-player adventure, and trying Resident Evil 6 alone is a real nightmare, and I'm not talking about the zombies. Your partner's AI is non-existent, and the points system for upgrading your character is complicated and ridiculous, not to mention that most of these upgrades will only be useful the next time you decide to play the same campaign. And don't get me started on the lack of a pause menu! | © Capcom

Resident evil 5

8. Resident Evil 5

The reason I believe Resident Evil 5 is better than its sequel lies in the slight fact that, while it continues with the ridiculous plots of the "action Resident Evils," at least they were still trying to take themselves somewhat seriously. Yes, the controls are a bit clunky, but at least we get a rarely seen environment in this franchise by setting it in Africa, making it unusual but enjoyable to have a horror and survival game in broad daylight under the scorching sun. Additionally, it was the first to introduce the cooperative element, and having to divide weapons between your partner and yourself creates sniper, assault, etc., roles, encouraging strategic thinking and balancing bullets. Not like in Resident Evil 6, where everything is shared... | © Capcom

Resident Evil Village

7. Resident Evil Village

The most recent installment isn't necessarily bad, but it's a bit bland, so a mid-list spot is very appropriate. The visual aesthetics of Eastern European castles and villages are great and align well with the folk horror vibe that the first game had. And yes, we all love Lady Dimitrescu... but the reality is that both the plot and the gameplay lack inspiration. No, it's not innovative to create a mechanic for guarding against attacks, and in fact, it's so inconsequential that you can complete the game without using it once.

Oh, and I want more of Heisenberg's voice. It's so bad it's great. | © Capcom

Resident Evil 7

6. Resident Evil 7

The great thing about Resident Evil 7 is that it came at a time when the franchise was at a low point (I'm looking at you, RE6), and it had been so long that it was feared it wouldn't return, at least not for a good decade. Not only did it bring a sort of reboot to the franchise, but it also took us back to its roots by being trapped in a terrifying mansion. And it certainly focuses on the creepy atmosphere, making a great mix of the horror from the early installments with the action introduced in 4. While Ethan isn't the best character, and the story can be mediocre at times, it is definitely superior to the previous games on this list and deserves applause for "reviving" the franchise. | © Capcom

Resident Evil 3

5. Resident Evil 3

Now we get to the good stuff, and Resident Evil 3 is a masterpiece in its own right. Bringing back our beloved OG protagonist Jill Valentine, it places us in the midst of the zombie apocalypse in Raccoon City. But what truly sets it apart from not only its predecessors but even future installments is the element of Nemesis, a constant and unstoppable threat that can appear anywhere, at any time, ready to deplete all your ammunition or force you to find an alternative route. While it can be annoying for veterans, it is genuinely terrifying the first time you experience this game. | © Capcom

Re veronica

4. Resident Evil: Code Veronica

I wish I could put Resident Evil: Code Veronica in a better place, but the reality is that it doesn't fit in the top 3. Being one of the most controversial games, maybe due to its length or difficulty and living just before the arrival of the great RE4, it deserves more popularity than it has received. This installment maintains the gothic roots and haunted mansion atmosphere of the first one, including the fixed camera angles that give the game a cinematic look. It's almost a love letter to the roots, not only in its gameplay but in its very story, which might be the best of all the RE games in history. | © Capcom

Resident evil 2

3. Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 has to be one of the best sequels ever created. Not only does it introduce us to Leon Kennedy, another beloved protagonist in the franchise, but it also expands the plot of the first game into a natural continuation, creating new environments like the police station and the beginning of a larger-scale infestation. There are levels and parts of the game that are brilliantly crafted, doing a fantastic job of recreating the intensity of surviving in the midst of a zombie invasion. And if it seems too old for you to try, the remake does an excellent job of recreating the magic of the original. | © Capcom

Resident Evil 1

2. Resident Evil

Ah, Resident Evil OG. It might be my favorite, as it has a magic that has been attempted to be recreated in other titles of the franchise with much success, but without fully achieving it. The lighting of hanging lamps, the sounds of crows escaping from their cages or the groans of zombies around the corner, the cinematic angles that generate that sense of anxiety about what you’ll find around the corner... And if that weren’t enough, the story of Lisa Trevor is one of the most terrifying not only in the franchise but in the horror genre, all mixed with the American gothic horror. Definitely a gem and a testament to what a good survival game should be. | © Capcom

Resident Evil 4

1. Resident Evil 4

Is it really a surprise? Rarely in history has a game carried so much on its shoulders and come out so successful. Resident Evil 4 marked the shift from static camera angles and a serious mood to action galore and cheesy lines straight out of 80s action movies. And you know what? It works perfectly, creating a game that is more fun than terrifying, without this being a drawback. Of course, the remake is also great, but I believe the ultimate experience is the original due to some lines of dialogue that change (I know, I'm being picky, but I can't help it). I have nothing more to say than, if you haven't tried it, stop reading this and start playing it immediately. | © Capcom

1-13

What makes a Resident Evil game good? Is it the terrifying atmosphere and complex plots, or the funny moments and cheesy dialogue? Is it the survival gameplay where we have to count every bullet we spend, or the action of mowing down thousands of zombies that will drop the same bullets we'll use against them?

Considering the many ways the franchise has changed over the years, we have decided to create our list ranking all the main Resident Evil games, from worst to best, avoiding mobile spin-offs or similar ones.

Note: Resident Evil has many remakes, but we believe they are on par with their original games, as they are mostly graphical improvements and modernizations of the titles.
