You cannot talk about voice chats without mentioning Discord. Ever since its release in 2015, the company has been growing every year and reached a new peak last year with an impressive 196 million monthly active users. This is a number Teamspeak does not even publish – one wonders why.

But to reclaim the throne, Teamspeak has now released an update to the once-beloved voice chat giant. Good news for all 17 people still using Teamspeak in 2025. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest Teamspeak update.

What’s New in TeamSpeak 6

In a tweet by the official TeamSpeak X account, it was announced that TeamSpeak 6 would start its beta phase on January 21. TeamSpeak 6 introduces a modernized interface that closely resembles Discord’s, featuring a server list and channels that can be organized by topics or games. The new screen sharing feature allows free streaming in 1440p at 60 FPS without any additional costs for users.

Server management has been simplified: servers can now be rented directly within the app, starting at $3.99 for up to five users. Alternatively, users can still host their own servers on devices like a Raspberry Pi. Premium features, such as high-resolution streaming, are free for all server users – only the host pays a fee.

TeamSpeak Throws Shade

In a bold and cheeky move, TeamSpeak took a jab at its biggest competitor, Discord, in a recent subtweet. As part of their playful rivalry, TeamSpeak shared a link to Discord's official "How to Cancel Your Nitro Subscription" guide, subtly encouraging users to rethink their choice of platform.

But the fight seems over. Since its creation in 2015, more and more people have turned to Discord, given its many advantages, mainly being easy to use. There’s no need to download an app, and you can create as many servers as you want, and so on – just look at the number of followers on X, where Discord has about 4.2 million followers, while Teamspeak is at 233k. The latter account we can highly recommend because it mostly posts funny tweets about being a forgotten realm of the past and being better than Discord.
