Who doesn’t remember those endless game nights with friends? Whether it was Mario Party or Super Smash Bros., the Mario franchise has always held a special place in our hearts. On February 12, another beloved classic returns in a brand-new form for the Switch 2. So grab your rackets – it’s time to play tennis!

The Biggest Character Roster Yet

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise on January 8, we finally got our first look at the gameplay for Mario Tennis Fever. Alongside exciting new features and fresh racket designs, one of the game’s biggest selling points immediately stood out: the characters.

Mario Tennis Fever boasts about the largest character roster in the series’ history. It also marks the debut of newcomers such as Goomba, Baby Waluigi, and many more.

Players can look forward to a variety of new game modes, boss battles within the adventure mode, and even a forest court match where you must feed a Piranha Plant –by playing tennis. With so many options, there’s bound to be a mode that suits your own playstyle.

Another exciting new addition is the rackets. There are over 30 rackets and each one comes with its unique special ability. Some of them were showcased within the gameplay trailer, and it already looked like a lot of fun is coming our way.

New Colors for the Joy-Con 2

This announcement is especially exciting as no new Joy-Con 2 colors had been released, or even announced, until now.

With the launch of Mario Tennis Fever, we’re finally getting some variety. The new Joy-Con 2 colors come in light green and light purple. Both variants will launch on February 12 and are already available for pre-order in the Nintendo Shop.

To round things out, Mario Tennis Fever will support selected Amiibos, local co-op, and GameShare. And of course, for maximum immersion, you can swing your Joy-Con and play with motion controls.
