Geoff Keighley, the host of The Game Awards, shared an image of a mysterious statue some time ago. Since then, the entire community has been trying to figure out what the statue could mean, with speculation ranging from new game reveals to completely new franchises.

Mysterious Statue Sparks Speculation

Around two weeks before The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley caused a stir with an unusual marketing stunt. He shared an image of a demonic-looking statue standing in the Mojave Desert near Los Angeles, where the show will take place on December 11.

As expected, the post immediately triggered extensive speculation about which game might be hiding behind the enigmatic figure. Due to its dark fantasy aesthetic, titles like The Elder Scrolls VI and Diablo IV were mentioned quickly, but both seem unlikely. Fans also suggested a new God of War until director Cory Barlog personally dismissed the idea. Eventually, some speculated that it could be a new entry in the Lords of the Fallen series, but that studio also confirmed that it has nothing to do with the statue.

New Clues Intensify The Speculation

After endless speculation, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier spoke up on the Triple Click podcast. According to him, it will be a “very cool” game, and he added:

Many will be excited for it.

His words led some to believe that it might be an entirely new franchise. Some even speculated about the upcoming Tomb Raider or Housemarque’s new title Saros, though neither of those would technically count as new franchises.

The official Game Awards account further fueled the speculation by posting the following hint underneath the image of the statue:

The ... are silent. ... bleeds. New ... stir.

This cryptic teaser led many to believe that it might actually be tied to an existing franchise. The community frequently mentioned FromSoftware, with Bloodborne 2 in particular appearing repeatedly in fan speculation. Some fans even filled in the teaser’s blanks with their own interpretation:

The Hunters are silent. The moon bleeds. New Nightmares stir.

However, it has to be said that the statue’s aesthetic does not exactly resemble Bloodborne, but who knows. Maybe FromSoftware has another surprise in store after The Duskbloods, although it now seems far more likely that a different well known studio is involved.

Everything Now Points To A New Project From Larian Studios

Larian Studios, the developers behind Baldur’s Gate 3, have increasingly emerged as the most likely candidates connected to the statue. However, all signs suggest that the statue is not hinting at Baldur’s Gate 4, but rather at a new game set in the Divinity universe. A new entry in the Original Sin series seems unlikely though, as Larian’s Publishing Director, Micheal Douse, has explicitly denied that possibility.

The Divinity franchise includes several different sub series, ranging from turn based tactics titles to action role playing games, which leaves plenty of room for a fresh project.

These latest theories were sparked by a report from MP1st. According to the report, new trademarks related to the Divinity franchise were filed in Europe. One of these symbols matches the motif seen on the mysterious statue. This suggests the mystery is all but solved, although we will not have absolute confirmation until the Game Awards on December 11.

What do you think? Which game do you believe is hiding behind the statue? Let us know in the comments!
