Not long now until the next League of Legends patch.
League of Legends Patch 26.15 will not be a massive shake-up, but it is an important balance patch for the start of Season 3. According to Matthew “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison, Lead Gameplay Designer for League of Legends, the focus is mainly on Bel’Veth, several standout champions, and multiple systems around fighter items. The patch is expected to release on July 29 and arrives directly after the Esports World Cup and before the next major part of the season.
Bel’Veth Should Fit Her Late-Game Fantasy Better
The most important change concerns Bel’Veth. Riot wants to weaken her early game and instead bring out more clearly what many players actually like about her: the idea of a scaling Void monster that becomes more threatening later in the game.
Phroxzon explains that Bel’Veth’s early levels are currently very high-skill-skewed. Her Q in particular can punish certain junglers extremely hard during early invades. When Bel’Veth is too strong there, Riot historically has to nerf her again and again, which hurts other parts of her kit and her actual champion fantasy.
Patch 26.15 therefore shifts power. Her early base stats are being hit, and her Q should function more like a normal dueling ability early on. At the same time, she gets a major fantasy change: at level 16, her empowered form is supposed to last indefinitely. That is a clear attempt to define Bel’Veth less through early invade dominance and more through her late-game promise.
Sundered Sky and Fighter Items Are Being Adjusted
A second major point is fighter items. According to Phroxzon, Sundered Sky has been at the center of the high-level meta for some time and appears to have too much influence on which junglers and bruisers are playable. Riot sees the item as one reason why AP junglers or tank junglers have less room than they should.
That is an important meta signal. If a single fighter item provides too much safety, healing, or teamfight value, it quickly becomes the standard for an entire class. Then it is no longer just champion strengths that decide the meta, but also who can use the best item most reliably. That seems to be exactly what Riot now wants to correct after the major tournament windows.
Bastionbreaker is also being changed. According to Phroxzon, the item has so far been too niche and too expensive when players wanted to build it for a strategic purpose. Riot wants to make it more accessible. At the same time, Jack of All Trades is being nerfed because the rune was too present and too strong, especially on champions that could combine defensive strength with offensive output.
Alistar Gets Help in the Support Meta
Among the buffs, Alistar stands out. Riot currently sees him more toward the lower end compared to other melee supports. At the same time, Phroxzon is happy with the broader direction: the recent meta adjustments were meant to strengthen melee supports compared to ranged supports, and from Riot’s perspective, that plan seems to have generally worked.
The Alistar buff is therefore less of a complete shift in direction and more of a fine-tuning change. Riot does not suddenly want to push enchanters out completely, but rather bring individual engage supports closer to the competition again. That could matter for both solo queue and pro play, because Alistar is always relevant when reliable engage and frontline value are needed.

Belveth
- This patch, we're launching a set of Bel'Veth changes that are aimed at making her gameplay pattern around her early levels weaker (which is currently very high skill skewed), in order to allow her to fulfil her fantasy as a late game scaling... pic.twitter.com/YGiZBURgxc
Locke Remains Strong, But Not Equally Everywhere
The new champion Locke is also being hit again. According to Phroxzon, Locke landed well overall, but is still too strong in certain skill brackets. Around Emerald and Diamond in particular, Locke can take over games without being punished for mistakes as hard as in other brackets.
That is a typical problem for champions with reset, snowball, or burst patterns. In lower Elos, execution can be too difficult. In the highest Elos, every mistake gets punished immediately. In between, there is often a range where a champion feels especially strong: enough game knowledge to use their strengths, but not enough perfect counterplay to stop them consistently.
More Buffs and Nerfs Round Out the Patch
Alongside Bel’Veth, several smaller champion changes are planned. Buffs are coming for Alistar, Kai’Sa, Maokai, Volibear, and Zac. Nerfs are targeting Locke, Mordekaiser, Naafiri, Riven, and Sylas. On the system side, Bastionbreaker, Terminus, and Yun Tal Wildarrows are being buffed, while Jack of All Trades is being weakened.
Mordekaiser is especially interesting because Riot seems to be walking back some of the changes to his ultimate. The goal is to bring more tension back into his 1v1 moments. Riven, meanwhile, is being monitored because of her synergy with current items and is being lightly hit without Riot wanting to fundamentally change her identity as a light fighter.
Patch 26.15 Looks Small, But Could Open Up the Meta
At first glance, Patch 26.15 is not a huge balance hammer. There is no complete class rework and no massive meta redefinition. Still, the changes could be noticeable because Riot is not only touching individual champions but also addressing several reasons why certain picks and items are currently so dominant.
Bel’Veth is supposed to function less through early invades and more through scaling. Sundered Sky and fighter items should have less control over the jungle and bruiser meta. Jack of All Trades loses power, while some weaker champions and items receive help.
That is exactly why Patch 26.15 could become more important than the list alone suggests. It feels like a cleanup patch after MSI and EWC: less spectacle, more fine-tuning – but with changes that could break up some stuck patterns in the meta.
