"Abhorrent And Unacceptable" - Disney Defends Decision to Fire Gina Carano

The former Mandalorian star has decided to sue Disney over her firing, which was a reaction to some of her posts on Twitter/X. After staying silent for a long time, Disney has finally decided to release a statement of their own.

Former Mandalorian star Gina Carano has taken Disney to court for wrongful-discharge and sex-discrimination. Now, Disney has made their own statement regarding the firing, explaining their position in the ordeal and giving reasons as to why the star was let go from her position on the show.

Disney is trying to get the case against them tossed out, stating that they have their own constitutional rights "not to associate its artistic expression with Carano’s speech". So, if Carano is using the first amendment right to build her case, then Disney will do the same.

Disney Believes Carano's Comments Trivialized The Holocaust

In 2021 Disney Fired their star actress Gina Carano over various posts and comments she made on social media regarding the Holocaust the treatment of Jewish people. She compared this ideology to today, explaining that "hating someone for their political views" is the same as what Jewish people went through in Nazi Germany.

She was subsequently dropped by Disney and even though three-years have passed she is still trying to get back at Disney, taking them to court. But, in a recent hearing, Disney made their own counter statement, in which they expressed the desire for the whole case to be dismissed.

Disney had enough. The same day Carano grotesquely trivialized the Holocaust as comparable to sharp political disagreements, Lucasfilm announced that ‘Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.’ A month later, Disney’s former CEO explained that Carano’s views ‘didn’t align with Company values,’ including its ‘values of respect, values of decency, values of integrity, and values of inclusion.

So it really isn't looking like Carano will be able to reprise her role as Rebel ranger Cara Dune. This whole case just goes to show that while people have freedom of speech, they do not have freedom of consequence. This means that even if you say what you want, that's your right, but you'll have to live with the consequences.
