Truly wholesome moments don’t match with the competitive, often brutal world of esports – or at least it may seem that way. That isn’t the case, though – even the most hardened pro can be prone to a second of pure joy after a close call or wholesome moment – here’s proof!

Overwatch – OGN Apex

It made for a very funny scene – after narrowly beating their opponent and making it to the semi-finals, Runaway’s Dae-hoon "Runner" Yoon was excited. So excited, in fact, that the Korean player jumped out of his chair and punched the air – except he ended up knocking down a ceiling panel while doing so.

While the rest of his team laughed hysterically, Runner did his best to fix it, before apologizing to the member of staff that came to the rescue – a surprisingly wholesome moment… not to mention funny, for everyone but the embarrassed Runner!

Super Smash Bros. Melee

It was a duel between Joseph Manuel "Mang0" Marquez and Kevin "PewPewU" Toy – normally a no-brainer win for Mang0. Except, at the Big House 8 semifinals, things didn’t quite happen that way – in a rare moment of forgetting how the game is played (or so we assume), Mang0 dropped himself straight off the map, ending the round in less than a second, and accidentally gifting Pewpewu the win.

Despite this, Mang0 was a good sport about it – he still shook with his opponent, although he definitely hurried off with his controller as soon as he could, while Pewpewu was still staring at the screen. If nothing else, it made for a very funny scene.

Street Fighter 5 – SGC

Korean Street Fighter 5 player Naoto "sako" Sako experienced a really wholesome moment in the 2018 Taiwan Major – he’d brought both his wife and young daughter along to the event to watch him play – and after securing an impressive (and decisive!) win over his opponent, Sako was happily waving to the audience, when his very young daughter came running.

It was a really funny scene – he picked the little one up and held her as he greeted his fans and even posed with her for a photo op, before handing her off to her laughing mother. An unexpectedly wholesome moment in an otherwise unrelenting esport!

It's nice to take a break from all the raging, isn't it?
