Virtus.pro Prodigy took down their brother squad Vritus.pro in the grand finals of Epic Prime League.

Epic Prime League started back on April 15 and came to an end yesterday May 17. The event was limited to only teams from the CIS region and offered a total of $150, 000 in prize money. The initial list of teams included:

  • Virtus.pro
  • Virtus.pro Prodigy
  • FlyToMoon
  • Winstrike Team
  • Team Spirit
  • B8
  • Team Unique
  • Cyber Legacy

The two VP squads were consistently on top during the group stage. VP lost a single series to FlyToMoon while Prodigy were only defeated by their brothers from the main squad. Cyber Legacy and B8 were eliminated due to their poor performance which led them to the bottom. Team Unique and Winstrike Team were sent to a sub-tournament called Epic Prime League Season 1: Relegation. Only four made it to the playoffs – VP, VP.Prodigy, FlyToMoon and Team Spirit. Both VP squads came out victorious in the first round which forced them to go against one another. The main squad defeated Prodigy with a 2:0 and sent them to the lower bracket.

Prodigy were far from done as they made their way back to the grand finals by defeating FlyToMoon with a 2:0. In the final series of the event, Prodigy surprised everyone as they managed to overcome their bigger brothers with a smashing 3:0 no less. VP ‘s total cut from the prize pool is $100, 000 distributed between their two rosters.

VP.Prodigy was created less than two months ago on April 1 and so far the team has managed to claim multiple high placements. While the squad started in the tier 2 Dota 2 scene, they’ve certainly proven that they can handle their own among the best. Most recently VP.Prodigy reached the grand finals in the Dota 2 Pushka League where only Team Secret was able to stop them. Now they’ve easily went through what’s supposedly the stronger squad of the organization and this might raise some questions both internally and among fans. Then again we also saw OG.Seed defeat OG in the same tournament. VP.Prodigy’s performance has been much more consistent though and the team definitely deserves some praise for what they’ve managed to achieve in such a short period. Whether the team will continue to grow will be made clear in the months to follow as more online events unfold.

Stay tuned for more Dota 2 news.
