There's a support for every situation!
CRYSTAL MAIDEN – One of the most popular supports that fits pretty much any lineup. She offers a good deal of crowd control and can be very aggressive early on.
Her aura takes care of mana-hungry teammates while her ultimate can turn around a teamfight given the circumstances. Her main weaknesses are the low movement speed and a small mana pool. (Image credit: Valve Corporation)
OGRE MAGI – The tankiest support at Level 1. Ogre excels at early game harrass and can take a lot more punishment than most supports.

DISRUPTOR – Disruptor is good at all stages of the game. He is especially useful against mobile heroes like Queen of Pain, Anti-Mage or Slark, as Glimpse makes it easy to catch them.

TREANT PROTECTOR – Treant might not be as tanky as Ogre Magi but has insane base damage. He hits heavy and has an innate passive that allows him to go through trees.
This makes him really hard to catch and excellent for using Meteor Hammer. His abilities offer plenty of crowd control and Living Armor can save teammates across the map. (Image credit: Valve Corporation)
JAKIRO – Jakiro is very much the support version of Viper. He has a high starting health pool and his abilities make it really hard to trade hits with him.
The best part about Jakiro is that all of his spells deal area of effect damage, making him perfect against early push lineups. In the very late game, Ice Path can stun for up to 3.5 seconds! (Image credit: Valve Corporation)
WARLOCK – Warlock is almost always a safe support pick. He'll guarantee a much easier lane for the carry with his Shadow Word as getting bullied out of the lane becomes almost impossible.

WITCH DOCTOR – Casket! While we're not certain he's an actual doctor, Zharvakko has it all – damage, healing, crowd control and AoE.
His most powerful spell is Maledict and if you manage to land it before an enemy becomes spell immune, it'll still deal damage. Combine that with enough burst and most foes will crumble. (Image credit: Valve Corporation)
DAZZLE – The shadow priest can be quite annoying during the laning stage thanks to his Poison Touch which is refreshed after every auto attack.
He can save anyone within range from certain death and his only direct counter is Axe's Culling Blade. Just ban Axe and enjoy life! Literally. (Image credit: Valve Corporation)
LICH – The Lich is among the best supports in the game, and has been so for a long time.
He can be aggressive early, he can save teammates and towers with Frost Shield and his ultimate can wreak total havoc. Three of his abilities apply slow and Sinister Gaze can interrupt channeling and town portals. What more do you need? (Image credit: Valve Corporation)
SHADOW SHAMAN – Trolls just do well as support. The Shaman has a LOT of crowd control and this makes him a very specific pick in most cases.
He has great synergy with someone like Ursa and does a good job of locking mobile heroes like Weaver. His ultimate can take enemy towers early on which guarantees some extra gold for his team and loss of map control for the enemy. (Image credit: Valve Corporation)
Dota 2 has over 100 heroes (wow!) and many of them can be played in the support position as we've already seen plenty of times in the pro scene. We at EarlyGame, however, prefer to stick to the more conventional supports that work most of the time and provide your team with the necessary spells.
